Samsung’s Galaxy Z Trifold Makes Its Debut: Is Huawei in Trouble?

Samsung tri fold

After months of anticipation, Samsung has finally unveiled the Galaxy Z TriFold, a three-panel folding smartphone set to rival Huawei’s Mate XT. A Korean news channel has broadcasted a report revealing the design and some physical features of the phone, sparking enthusiasm for its launch in Europe.

2025 marks a pivotal year for Samsung, having added several groundbreaking products to its lineup. These include the Galaxy S25 Edge, the brand’s first ultra-thin smartphone. Our review highlighted both the limitations and potential of the product. The Galaxy Z Fold 7, another ultra-thin folding smartphone, received high praise in our assessment. Lastly, the Galaxy XR, a mixed reality headset, draws inspiration from Apple’s Vision Pro.

The year isn’t over yet. Samsung is also expected to officially announce another product that has been frequently mentioned in our articles under the provisional name Galaxy Z TriFold. It directly competes with Huawei’s Mate XT, a three-panel folding smartphone. We had the opportunity to test the product, and its main screen, as large as a tablet’s, offers exceptional comfort.

Galaxy Z TriFold Finally Revealed by Samsung

Until now, Samsung has kept the Galaxy Z TriFold under wraps. Aside from the screen technology previously revealed by Samsung Display, the device had not been officially showcased. That changed last week during the APEC 2025 conference in Seoul, where Samsung presented the Galaxy Z TriFold under glass, as reported by the Korean channel SBS. You can find the report at the end of this article.

The video report shows the design of the product. When unfolded, the smartphone is incredibly thin, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It features two inward-folding hinges (unlike the Mate XT, which folds like an accordion). The two hinges are not identical; one is wider than the other. The commentator notes that the fold is visible on this large screen and that the borders are fairly thick. There is also a visible selfie camera housed in a punch-hole; therefore, it does not have an under-display selfie camera.

When folded, it resembles a Galaxy S. It has a traditional touchscreen (positioned in the center of the three panels) of a comfortable size. The thickness of the device appears well-managed (less wide than a finger). A second selfie camera is located in another punch-hole. On the back, there are three photo sensors that seem to follow the configuration of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, though not as comprehensive or high-quality as those of the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The Galaxy Z TriFold Will Be Expensive

This brief presentation leaves many questions unanswered. What platform is it running on? What is the battery capacity? How much does it weigh? Is the device water and dust resistant? And of course, what is the retail price of such an innovation? Remember, Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at a price exceeding 2000 euros, and Huawei sells the Mate XT in Europe for 3600 euros. It’s clear that the Galaxy Z TriFold will not be priced below 3000 euros. Whether it will be marketed in Europe remains uncertain, as recent rumors suggest that Samsung might limit its availability to certain countries, including Korea and China.
