Currently ranked as the sixth most visited website globally according to the latest study by Visual Capitalist, Reddit even surpasses Bing, Microsoft’s search engine. Could this inspire the company to venture into this market?

Carefully reading the latest investor note, released in recent days marking the end of the first half, Steve Huffman, CEO of Reddit, was quite forthright about the company’s future.

An “Indispensable” Search Engine Opposite Google?

While statistics show that Google rules the online search market with 136 billion visits per month according to the latest public estimates, the search engine’s results have been under heavy criticism for several years now.

And with users becoming increasingly demanding, especially with the advent of artificial intelligence which could promote certain misinformation, this might benefit Reddit.

In his note to investors, Steve Huffman stated that Reddit currently holds all the cards to become an “indispensable” search engine.

Relying solely on user-generated questions and answers, with high accuracy in niche topics, Reddit now possesses “something special” according to the company’s CEO.

Toward a Global Rollout for Reddit Answers?

To gain more market share in online search, Reddit should focus on expanding Reddit Answers. With 6 million active users weekly as per Reddit’s reported figures, Reddit Answers is currently available in only about a dozen countries.

By deploying its solution globally, Reddit could position its tool to compete on the grounds of Google and Bing, Microsoft’s search engine which is also reportedly growing according to figures from Comscore and StatCounter.

To push the boundaries further, the CEO of Reddit has announced plans to integrate Reddit and Reddit Answers, aiming to offer a unified user experience and attract more users.
