The 20th Anniversary iPhone in 2027: A New Era of Smartphone Innovation
For the 20th anniversary of the iPhone in 2027, Apple is reportedly planning to release a premium model that surpasses even its current Pro versions. This model is expected to feature a screen that curves on all four sides and integrates all front-facing sensors, including the webcam, underneath the display. According to the Korean website ETNews, Apple is already working on the second generation of this OLED screen, which would be produced by Samsung Display and LG Display and is set to debut a year later, in 2028.
Technological Advancements and Challenges
For the 2027 model, Apple is said to be utilizing an OLED display that incorporates a magnesium-silver alloy at the cathode. ETNews notes that this technique could lead to potential screen distortion at the bending points and might diminish screen brightness. However, Apple aims to address these issues in the subsequent edition by using indium-zinc oxide (IZO). LG Display has recently announced an investment of approximately $800 million in new infrastructure dedicated to this technology, with Samsung Display expected to follow suit soon.
Anticipation and Rumors Surrounding the Launch
Even though the launch is still years away, there has been significant speculation regarding Apple’s plans for this landmark 20th anniversary iPhone. The design is rumored to be as revolutionary as the iPhone X introduced in 2017. Mark Gurman, known for his reliable sources, mentioned a year ago that this device could feature a curved design, almost completely made of glass and without any visible screen cutouts. For its first truly “all-screen” model, Apple might make a significant leap by skipping a number: just as there was no iPhone 9, Apple may decide to jump straight to the iPhone 20 following the iPhone 18.
