Apple’s iPhone Release Strategy Could See a Major Shift
Apple is reportedly considering a significant alteration to its iPhone release schedule, potentially unveiling its new models in two separate phases. Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently suggested that starting in 2026, Apple may split the launch of its new iPhones. According to this plan, the high-end iPhone 18 Pro models would debut towards the end of the year, while the iPhone 18 and 18e models would not be released until the beginning of 2027. This theory has gained credibility and is supported by sources from the well-informed Korean website ETNews.

The sources reportedly stated, “Apple plans to adjust its lineup to launch the entry-level iPhone ‘e’ model and the standard model in the first half of the year, then release four models, including a foldable model, in the second half of the year.” This implies that only the launch of the standard model would be temporarily delayed until next year. Thus, 2026 is expected to see the introduction of an iPhone 17e in the first half, followed by the 18 Pro series at the end of the year. The iPhone 18 would then launch at the beginning of 2027 alongside the 18e.
Apple has reportedly shared these plans with its materials and components partners. The rationale behind revising the release schedule is to better highlight individual models by not unveiling them all at once. This strategy is also intended to draw attention to the capabilities of the upcoming foldable iPhone, which is anticipated to be part of the 18 Pro lineup.
With this new model and an annual iPhone “e” release, Apple’s lineup would include six phones—a substantial roster that supports the idea of spreading out their introductions. For years, Samsung has utilized a similar dual-event approach, with the Galaxy S series launching in winter and its foldable smartphones being showcased in mid-summer. Adopting a similar strategy could also simplify logistics for subcontractors by distributing production throughout the year.
