Production Kick-off for iPhone 17e Expected This January
According to information from Smart Pikachu, which is generally recognized for its leaks on the Android ecosystem, the iPhone 17e is slated to enter production this month. This supports various speculations that have been suggesting an early year launch, likely by spring. Regarding its appearance, the discussion once again hints at the inclusion of a Dynamic Island to replace the notch. However, some sources are still betting on the retention of the notch, albeit with slimmer bezels surrounding the display. Thus, the final design remains a subject of uncertainty. The display is expected to maintain a 60 Hz refresh rate, with the advanced ProMotion technology and 120 Hz refresh reserved for the standard iPhone 17 model.
Internal Upgrades and Features
Inside, this new entry-level model is set to transition from the A18 chip to the A19 chip, albeit in a “reduced frequency” version. The iPhone 17e is also expected to incorporate the more advanced and energy-efficient C1X modem, an upgrade from the C1 modem used in the iPhone 16e. However, it seems it will not feature the N1 chip, which would enhance the management of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and support for the Thread network. Another exciting feature rumored to be included is the integration of MagSafe magnets, potentially offering faster wireless charging capabilities.
Pricing Speculations
The biggest mystery surrounding this new model likely lies in its pricing strategy. Currently, the entry-level market includes the iPhone 16e starting at €719, followed by the iPhone 16 at €869 and the iPhone 16 Plus at €969, while the iPhone 17 range begins at €969. It’s conceivable that some models may be retired following the launch of the iPhone 17e, or the iPhone 16e could continue to be sold at a reduced price (currently available from €599 through various retailers). For those considering the purchase of an entry-level iPhone, it may be worthwhile to wait a bit longer.
