Apple’s iPhone 16 Launches with Innovative C1 Modem
In February 2025, Apple introduced the iPhone 16, marking the debut of its C1 modem which significantly enhanced battery life. Following this, Apple incorporated the enhanced C1X modem in its iPhone Air model, which further improved performance while reducing power consumption. According to The Information, this same modem is expected to be featured in the upcoming iPhone 17, slated for release in early 2026. Additionally, Apple’s next-generation C2 modem, which will support 5G mmWave technology in the United States, is anticipated to be included in the iPhone 18 Pro set for release in September of the same year.
Leaked Document Reveals Details About iPhone 17’s Modem
MacRumors has confirmed through a leaked internal Apple document that the iPhone 17 will utilize a “Leda” generation modem, which includes the C1 and C1X modems. The document also indicates that the iPhone 17 will not feature the N1 chip, Apple’s first chip responsible for managing Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread network connections, which was introduced with the iPhone 17 series in September. Consequently, the iPhone 17 will miss out on the energy efficiency improvements of the N1 chip and will not support the Thread network.
What to Expect from iPhone 17 in Spring 2026
The iPhone 17 is expected to launch by spring 2026. Its design is likely to remain similar to its predecessors, maintaining a notch for the front sensors but possibly featuring a display with thinner bezels. In terms of hardware, the most significant upgrade will be the transition from the A18 chip to the A19 chip. Another key development for the iPhone 17 will be the inclusion of MagSafe magnets, which will enhance the capabilities for faster and more reliable wireless charging.
