iPad A16 Successor Delayed: Launch Not Expected Until Early 2027

Le successeur de l'iPad A16 ne serait pas lancé avant début 2027

Launch Delay for iPad’s Latest Model

The successor to the iPad A16, initially introduced in March 2025, is now slated for release in the first quarter of 2027, according to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg. The upcoming entry-level tablet from Apple, codenamed J581, has been the subject of speculation for nearly two years. MacRumors had identified a version equipped with the A18 chip as early as August 2025, and the same Mark Gurman had predicted in July of the previous year that this update would be available in early 2026. However, in December, MacWorld reported finding evidence of an A19 chip in Apple’s code snippets, indicating that Apple might have adjusted its plans since.

Technical Enhancements in the New Model

The forthcoming iPad A18 or A19 is expected to feature few changes apart from its new chip, which will likely be paired with the N1 chip for improved management of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread networks, as well as a more energy-efficient C1 or C1X modem. This update will mark a significant leap in performance and sustainability for the model, not least due to an increase from 6 to 8 GB of RAM, which will support Apple Intelligence features.

New Accessories on the Horizon

In spring 2027, Apple is also set to release new models of the Apple Pencil USB-C and Apple Pencil Pro, Mark Gurman revealed a few days ago. It remains unclear if these new versions will incorporate additional features, but they might adjust their design to include a removable battery in response to upcoming European regulations.

Price Adjustments for Current Models

If you were planning to purchase an Apple device sooner, be aware that Apple significantly raised its prices at the end of June due to soaring memory costs. The starting price for the iPad A16 has jumped to 509 euros on the Apple Store, up from 389 euros previously. Unfortunately, retailers have also quickly increased their prices accordingly. While there are still some promotions available, they are less attractive than before.
