Google’s Opal: Revolutionizing Vibe Coding in Gemini Platform!

Opal Gemini

Unveiled in July 2025, Google’s Opal enables the creation of AI-powered mini-apps without any coding skills. It is now fully integrated into Gemini.

Gone are the days when Google was struggling to catch up with OpenAI. The tech titan from Mountain View is now advancing at a breakneck pace. In December 2025 alone, the company launched Workspace Studio hub, MCP servers for linking AIs to its services, the A2UI project, and the CC morning briefing, all the while outperforming OpenAI in numerous specialized rankings.

The latest update as of now is the integration of Opal, its vibe coding tool released in July, directly into Gemini. Let’s dive into the details.

Opal Arrives on Gemini

As a refresher, Opal is an experimental vibe coding tool that allows the creation of AI mini-apps without coding a single line. Users simply describe in natural language what they want to do, and the tool automatically generates a functional application using visual blocks that manage inputs, processes, and outputs.

Primarily designed for rapid prototyping, Opal targets both non-technical creators and professionals looking to design AI workflows, proofs of concept, or customized internal tools. Google has opted for a fully visual and closed interface, with no direct access to the underlying code or APIs.

Until now, the tool was available via a dedicated platform on Google Labs. Currently, users can utilize Opal directly within Gemini to design Gems, the platform’s personalized assistants. This new feature is even available to users of the free version.

How Opal Works within Gemini

In Gemini, Opal is activated from the Gems manager, which can be accessed from the sidebar. Google notes that “you will notice a new view that transforms your prompts into step-by-step lists, making it even easier to understand and modify how your mini-apps function”. At this point, the integration of Opal into the manager has not been rolled out to all users.

However, Opal within Gemini is still limited to relatively simple uses. For more complex needs and finer control over workflows, Google recommends using the dedicated platform.
