Mountain View, California. The way humans interact with smartphones is evolving. Now, it’s easier to give commands to tools like Gemini to assist us in finding emails or automated responses for both work and personal environments.
At Google I/O, Blake Barnes, Google Workspace’s Vice President of Product, elaborated on the integration of AI into the Workspace productivity suite. These advancements aim to make work faster, more personalized, and accessible to users of all backgrounds.
Smarter and More Personalized Replies in Gmail
Gmail now not only generates automated replies based on a specific email, but it can also analyze the entire mailbox to provide more accurate responses tailored to the user’s personal tone.
“We can extend your identity and personality in the emails you write to help you build trust with clients and supervisors,” Barnes shared.
While it doesn’t require a minimum number of interactions between you and your contacts, it’s crucial to note that the tool will review the conversations exchanged to ‘mimic’ the style of the emails written.
Automatic Email Inbox Cleanup
A new feature in Gemini allows requesting email cleanup, such as automatically archiving old confirmations. This eliminates mundane tasks and keeps the focus on what’s essential. Barnes boasted that Gemini comes to the aid of users who find it cumbersome to determine which emails should be trashed.
Smart Scheduling from Gmail
To address the typical back-and-forth in scheduling meetings, especially with people outside the organization, you can now insert booking links directly from Gmail. Gemini detects when a meeting is being arranged and suggests actions within the same email.
“This feature depends on the context, timing, and relevance of this appointment to your workflow,” Barnes explained. This means that if you are a journalist looking to schedule an interview with a source, it’s possible that both AI assistants communicate and magically schedule the meeting in your calendar.
Real-time Voice Translation in Google Meet
Meet has incorporated a new feature for real-time voice translation between English and Spanish (with more languages to follow). This translation aims to replicate not just the words but also the tone and emotion of the speaker. According to Google, it’s “a magical experience” that may “make you feel as if you were actually there on the other side of the call.”
AI-Driven Video Creation in Google Vids
Google Vids now allows turning presentations in Slides into dynamic videos with scripts generated by AI, automated voiceovers, animations, and assisted editing. Additional enhancements such as automatic audio balancing and smart transcriptions have also been added.
“These features have the potential to transform demonstrations and internal communications, reducing costs and making them more accessible,” Barnes explained, and they will be available to all users on plans with Gemini, at no extra cost.
