Google has unveiled a new feature for its Gmail app on Android devices, aimed at saving time for users who frequently receive lengthy emails. Here’s how it works.
If you own an Android smartphone, chances are high that you use Gmail as your primary email application. It might even be your go-to app for professional communications.
Assuming this is the case, you are likely aware of how easy it is to spend ample time managing your inbox: dealing with group emails that may not always concern you, sifting through unnecessary replies like “Thank you” or “Noted”, and reading through lengthy emails to ensure no crucial information is missed.
Google understands these challenges. The tech giant from Mountain View is aware of these common email pitfalls and is actively seeking ways to improve the experience. One of the innovations includes introducing the ability to react to emails with emojis in Gmail. Now, you no longer need to reply with a simple “Ok” to acknowledge a message; a quick thumbs-up emoji will suffice. For longer emails, the artificial intelligence named Gemini will be your new assistant. Following its announcement that Gemini can summarize messages in Gmail, Google is taking a step further.
How This New Feature Will Save You Time on Gmail
Until now, it was up to you to decide whether you wanted a summary of an email by pressing a button to request this from the AI. In a recent blog post, Google explained that moving forward, Gemini will automatically display key information from received messages in Gmail whenever necessary. Even better: the summary will automatically update itself by incorporating any new replies to ensure you miss nothing.
This feature won’t prevent you from quickly scanning the full text if you prefer, but if the system proves effective, it could significantly reduce the amount of time spent managing emails daily. In line with this, Gemini will also handle summarizing conversations in Google Chat, as well as summarizing the content of shared documents within the messaging app. Convenient indeed.
