Google is gearing up to introduce a fundamental yet previously missing feature to its Gemini app on Android. This enhancement promises to leverage artificial intelligence capabilities, enhancing user experience significantly. Watch the video to find out what’s new.
When ChatGPT first emerged, it was lauded for its ability to handle written queries in a manner that felt like interacting with a real person. Since then, it has evolved to include a wide array of functions. Naturally, competitors like Google’s Gemini had to keep pace, striving to match or surpass these offerings. On Android, Gemini is nearly ubiquitous, capable of summarizing Google Docs or even drafting them on your behalf.
Beyond being integrated into various services, Gemini also exists as a standalone app, which becomes the go-to for more general inquiries. You can, for instance, show it a photo from your gallery or one you’ve just captured before asking a question about it. The same applies to videos, provided they do not exceed five minutes in length. However, there has been one notable limitation: it was not possible to record video directly using your smartphone for Gemini to analyze. This basic functionality, surprisingly absent, is now on its way.
New Update Makes Gemini on Android Even More Versatile
In the latest beta version of the Gemini app, Android Authority reporters have discovered a new feature: live video capture. Demonstrated in the video below, its usage is incredibly straightforward. Within the interface used to take a photo for a Gemini query, there’s now a button that toggles between photo and video modes.
This addition is simple, yet exactly what one might expect from such a service. Those who try Gemini after this feature rolls out will likely be surprised that it wasn’t included from the start. While it’s unclear when Google will officially release this update, given its current functionality, it could be just a matter of weeks—unless, of course, an unforeseen bug disrupts the schedule.
