For Under €500: This Ultra-Compact Smartphone Aims to Revolutionize the Industry, But How?

iKKO Mind One

iKKO, initially recognized for its wireless earphones, is now entering the smartphone arena with its new model, the Mind One. This device stands out for its compact size and some unique features.

There have been many products claiming to “revolutionize the smartphone industry.” However, how many have truly succeeded? Essentially none. A recent example is the Humane AI connected badge, whose notable failure has likely dampened the enthusiasm of many companies that believed they had the perfect idea.

iKKO is different from the rest. Originally famous for its ActiveBuds wireless earphones and their display-equipped case, it now introduces the Mind One, a uniquely functioning, very compact smartphone. Inside, it features a MediaTek MT8781 processor and a 2,200 mAh battery. While that might seem small, the phone itself measures just 86 x 72 x 8.9 mm and includes a 4.02-inch AMOLED screen. Its main camera also doubles as a selfie camera due to its rotatable design.

The iKKO Mind One: A True Pocket-Sized AI Smartphone

Available in both Pro and standard versions, the iKKO Mind One operates on Android 15 for regular applications and iKKO AI OS for AI-driven tools. This includes capabilities like translation, note-taking during meetings, and problem-solving that are expected in modern devices. iKKO OS is housed in a separate area of the device, accessible via a “swipe” and can be secured with a password.

Another notable feature of the Mind One is NovaLink, which allows users to connect to the internet for free without a SIM card or eSIM in over 60 countries, including France. However, this free data can only be used for AI tools, and is only available on the Pro version of the device. For other uses, payment for a nano SIM or vSIM, a virtual SIM card not to be confused with an eSIM that requires a physical component, is necessary. Note: the device does not support 5G.

The iKKO Mind One is currently available on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. At the time of writing this article, there are 26 hours left before the campaign ends. The device costs $429 without accessories ($369 with the limited “early bird” offer), plus VAT and shipping costs. The total is expected to be just under 500€. Delivery is scheduled for November 2025, although delays are always a possibility.
