Experience the Future of Reading: Amazon Unveils Thinner, Color Kindle Scribe – Feels Like Paper!

Today in New York City, Amazon unveiled a series of new Kindle devices at a hardware event led by Panos Panay. The event, which also introduced new Echo and Ring products, highlighted the addition of the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft to Amazon’s range of e-readers, which now includes the basic Kindle Scribe 3.

The initial Kindle Scribe was a large tablet-style e-reader that came with a stylus, first introduced in 2022. Since its launch, there have been several updates, but this marks the first iteration with a color screen, a feature that will likely appeal greatly to enthusiasts of graphic novels and comics.

Moreover, the latest version is noticeably slimmer and lighter, measuring only 5.4mm in thickness and weighing 400g. Panay highlighted that the newly designed glass display with texture molding has a latency of only 12 milliseconds for pen inputs, providing a near-authentic paper-like writing experience.

The display itself has been upgraded to a larger 11-inch screen, enhanced from the previous model’s 10.2 inches.

The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is enhanced with a custom chip and increased memory, resulting in performance improvements of 40% in page-turning and writing speeds. In addition to the color model, there is also a standard, non-color Kindle Scribe 3 available.

The longevity of these new devices remains to be seen, but Amazon claims the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft will provide “weeks of battery life”.

Enhancements in AI Productivity

It being 2025, it’s no surprise that AI has been integrated into the new Kindle Scribe Colorsoft, with several new AI-driven features announced.

• Revamped Home Screen: The new Home screen allows quick notes for spontaneous ideas. Additionally, recently opened books, documents, and notebooks are easily accessible.
• Document Access: With Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive support, importing documents for mark-up and exporting annotated PDFs is seamless.
• AI-Enhanced Search: Search across your notes with natural language and receive concise AI-generated summaries. Follow-up queries are also supported for deeper insight.
• Integration with Alexa+: Starting next year, send notes and documents to Alexa+ for interactive discussions.
• Notebook Sharing via OneNote: Export notes as text or embedded images to OneNote, allowing for continued editing on your laptop.
• Colorful Writing Tools: Choose from 10 pen colors and 5 highlighter shades for writing, drawing, and annotating.
• Shading Tool: The new shading tool allows for creating gradients and subtle tones, perfect for artists and creators.
• Organized Workspace: Keep all your documents, notebooks, books, and more in one organized folder.

Cost and Market Availability

The Kindle Scribe 3 starts at $499.99, while the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft begins at $629.99. A basic model of the Kindle Scribe without a front light will hit the market early next year for $429.99.

Currently, these products are only available in the U.S., but plans are in place to expand to the U.K and Germany by 2026.

As for discounts, Amazon has reduced the price of the original Scribe by $100 as part of the build-up to the upcoming Prime Day event.
