YouTuber Rushed to ER Due to Galaxy Ring: What Went Wrong?

Samsung Galaxy Ring

A YouTuber who had been wearing the Galaxy Ring for about a year suddenly found himself needing emergency hospital care due to an issue with the ring. Samsung has called it a “rare incident,” yet the damage has been done.

While the initial buzz surrounding Samsung’s Galaxy Ring has died down, many still sport the smart ring on their fingers. With its advanced health tracking features, it continues to be a viable alternative to other brands in the market, such as Oura. Generally, the launch of the wearable went smoothly. Unlike the typical issues seen with most high-end smartphones soon after their release, the Galaxy Ring has seen few problems reported.

The experience of YouTuber ZONEofTECH, however, tips the balance somewhat, though it took a year after purchasing the Galaxy Ring for the issues to arise. While at the airport to continue a journey that had already lasted 47 hours, he began to feel discomfort which quickly escalated into pain in his left index finger—the finger on which he wore the smart ring. He quickly realized what was happening.

Galaxy Ring Sends YouTuber to Emergency Room: What Happened?

For no obvious reason, the battery of the Galaxy Ring began to swell while on the man’s finger. He tried unsuccessfully to remove it. Attempts with soapy water and then a hand lotion failed to make the ring slippery enough to slide off. Eventually, the airline prohibited ZONEofTECH from boarding the plane due to the associated risks.

As the pain grew increasingly unbearable, the video creator was ultimately taken to the emergency room. The medical team managed to remove the Galaxy Ring by reducing the swelling in his finger with ice and then applying a medical lubricant. The swollen battery can be seen in the photo above, taken shortly thereafter. Samsung has stated that it is investigating the incident, while describing it as “rare.” At this point, it is unclear what triggered the battery in the ring to swell.
