With the heating season upon us in this hemisphere, it’s particularly beneficial to have a connected heating system. Automation allows for heating only when someone is present in the home, leading to significant savings, and enhancing comfort by warming the home before returning from a vacation.
Each heating solution requires specific connected features, so here are the best deals based on your setup. Additionally, you’ll find information about some connected temperature sensors at the end, which are essential for accurately gauging room temperatures.
Managing a Boiler and Water Radiators
Let’s start with the simplest scenario: you have a boiler system that heats water for underfloor heating or individual radiators. In most cases, you can simply replace the existing room thermostat—whether it’s the one that came with your boiler or was installed by your heating engineer—with a connected model. A good option currently is the Tado° X thermostat, which benefits from Thread integration and native Matter compatibility. This means if you’re using Apple devices (like HomePod mini, HomePod 2, or Apple TV 4K with Ethernet), you can purchase just the thermostat, currently discounted to €80 from €134.
Before buying, ensure that the thermostat is compatible with your system by using the compatibility test available on the manufacturer’s website. If your original thermostat is wireless, you should opt for the dedicated starter kit, now reduced to €120 from €179. In this setup, a wired kit will be directly connected to the boiler and communicate with Tado°’s thermostat. If you’re not equipped with Thread, another starter kit that includes a bridge is also available for €100, down from €200.
Other brands like Netatmo also offer thermostats, with their equivalent model currently priced at €100, down from €150. While only wired and less comprehensive than the Tado° app, it remains a viable option.
Once your boiler is connected, you can enhance your setup with thermostatic radiator valves to control individual radiators. This is particularly useful in larger homes where you can heat rooms differently—like only heating the guest room when visitors are present or adjusting the temperature in children’s rooms while lowering it in yours. I had tested such a system with the previous generation of Tado° products and, while details may vary, my overall experience remains relevant.
The thermostatic head offered by Tado° is also on sale, priced at €60 instead of €88. For managing multiple radiators, a three-pack is available for €160, reduced from €243. These devices also connect via Thread, and if needed, a kit including the home bridge and two heads is priced at €150, down from €223. Netatmo’s equivalent is available for €50, down from €78, and connects directly to your home Wi-Fi.
The Eve thermostatic head, which is Matter compatible via Thread, sells for €50 instead of €80. If you’re part of the SwitchBot ecosystem, their product is significantly cheaper at €28 instead of €40, though the head requires a home hub. The starter kit, which includes the head and the famous hub, is also discounted, at €56 instead of €70. Finally, if you use open-source home automation like Home Assistant with your own Zigbee controller, Sonoff’s model is available for €32, down from €50.

Controlling a Heat Pump or Other Heating Systems
If you heat your home with an air/air heat pump, and your splits aren’t already connected, you’ll need an infrared control to integrate them into your home automation system. Tado° offers a solution with its Smart AC Control, currently available at a reduced price of €60 from €105. Netatmo offers a similar product for €70, down from €120.
Both options are optimized for managing heating and cooling with well-suited apps. However, any infrared emitter that can learn the commands from your heat pump’s remote control can work. For example, Aqara’s M3 hub can take on this task and is currently on sale for €100, down from €130. If you need an additional camera, the G3 Camera Hub also serves as an infrared emitter for €80, down from €110. Another cheaper option, the SwitchBot Hub 2, can send infrared commands and integrate them into Matter for €60, down from €80.
For other types of heating, such as individual electric radiators with pilot wire control which are common in France, options compatible with HomeKit are still lacking. If you’re looking for a connected module regardless, Heatzy’s is currently priced at €38, down from €49. The eCosy by Konyks, which I had tested, is not on sale but is still cheaper at €35 per unit.
For electric underfloor heating, Meross has a dedicated product that is compatible with HomeKit and can be integrated into your home setup. This specialized thermostat is currently priced at €47.5, down from €70. Meross also offers a thermostat linked to a power outlet, perfect for a space heater, now on sale for €40 instead of €55.
Measuring Temperature and Humidity
To heat your home efficiently, precise knowledge of temperature and humidity levels is crucial. Although most of the systems mentioned include their own thermometers, these are not ideal due to localized measurements that are rarely central in the room. Investing in connected thermometers is a good idea, and there are many options currently on sale.
The most comprehensive option is likely the Netatmo weather station, which is compatible with HomeKit and provides a broad overview with an outdoor module and indoor CO2, temperature, and humidity measurements. The base kit is available for €100, down from €150. An additional kit that includes a second indoor sensor is available for €140, down from €210, or you can expand your setup with an extra indoor module for €50, down from €80.
If you’re invested in Aqara’s home automation ecosystem or use open-source home automation with Zigbee, Aqara’s connected thermometer is on sale for €16.8, down from €24, with a three-pack available for €46, down from €60. These are excellent products and can integrate into your home setup via the associated Aqara hub.
If you already have a SwitchBot hub, its thermometers are affordable, reliable, and can integrate into your home system via Matter. A single unit with a display, useful for reading the data without home automation, is priced at €11.4, down from €18, with the price decreasing when buying in packs (as low as €8 per unit for four). Its outdoor thermometer is available for €12, down from €16, and can be paired with its weather station, a large display that also shows outdoor measurements, for €19, down from €35, or €30 instead of €44 for a pack that includes the outdoor module.
