Tado° has launched a new version of its long-established Auto Assist feature called tado° AI Assist. As we are now in 2025, this upgrade naturally includes a significant amount of artificial intelligence. Specializing in smart heating solutions, the German company introduced this feature to the media today. Tado° AI Assist is now available to all users of tado X products, the latest models from the manufacturer, replacing the previous version with added intelligence capabilities on paper.

For over a decade, tado° has been marketing smart thermostats that have consistently stood out from competitors due to their advanced features, especially in managing user presence. From the beginning, the smartphone app has been able to notify the system when no one is home, automatically lowering the temperature setting, and then gradually increasing it upon return to ensure a comfortable temperature when entering the home. Over the years, these smart features have become more sophisticated, with the manufacturer now relying on artificial intelligence to enhance them further.

Specifically, tado° AI Assist encompasses all the features previously offered by Auto Assist, such as automatic temperature adjustment based on presence and open windows, as well as precise energy tracking. However, the new system is purported to be smarter thanks to AI. For example, it won’t wait for you to start your journey home from work to begin warming up the house; it can predict your usual schedule and adjust the temperature accordingly. Similarly, if you have room-by-room control, the system is designed to learn the thermal behavior of each room and independently adjust settings accordingly. Previously, adjustments were made on a whole-house scale, and the manufacturer promises better thermal stability and further improved savings.

Tado° also introduces a vacation mode, which remains entirely manual even though it’s part of the new functionality. Overall, the idea is to enhance what already exists, and indeed, tado° AI Assist replaces Auto Assist for users of X range products. This means that the new feature comes with a subscription, which, notably, does not increase in price: €3.99 per month or €29.99 per year. Customers with older tado° thermostats will continue to use Auto Assist at the same price, while those with an X model should switch to the new generation of assistance during the day.

While it remains to be seen if the AI developed by tado° will make a significant difference, the company emphasized during its presentation that all data is managed internally via servers located in Europe. With approximately one million households equipped across the continent, tado° has amassed a vast database that has enabled them to create more advanced models showcased here. For instance, they have collected 80 billion manual commands, adjustments in the app, or directly on the products, which has allowed them to develop a model that accounts for habits based on climate and country.

To take advantage of all these features, a tado° X thermostat is necessary. If you do not already own one, the starter kit costs €200, although the Bridge X connection bridge may not be necessary if the system uses a Thread connection, which might already be provided by an Apple TV or HomePod.

As always, the heating can also be controlled via the Maison app, through the Matter standard. However, this will forfeit the smart features of tado°, although it seems that Apple may plan to incorporate similar functionalities in the future.
