Update as of November 26 at 3:10 AM:

Gaumont has issued an official statement to Variety regarding the recent developments. “The release of our series ‘The Hunt’ has been temporarily postponed,” the production company confirmed. “We are currently conducting a thorough review to address all questions related to our production. We take intellectual property issues very seriously.”

Original Article:

Recently, Apple has completely removed the series “The Hunt” (Traqués) from Apple TV in a move reminiscent of George Orwell’s 1984. All trailers, press releases, and dedicated pages for the French series starring Mélanie Laurent and Benoît Magimel have vanished, leading to a multitude of 404 errors. The series was scheduled to debut on December 3, 2025, making its disappearance quite puzzling. According to media expert Clément Garin, there is a significant reason behind this: the series is allegedly plagiarized.

Garin points out that Cédric Anger, the director, creator, and writer of the series, failed to disclose that the thriller was actually based on a novel by Douglas Fairbairn, published in 1973. The novel, titled Shoot, was translated into French as La Traque in 1974. Filmed in France in 2024, the series apparently follows the novel’s plot, which revolves around a group of friends who go hunting and are attacked by another group of hunters. During the attack, one person is injured, but the group chooses to keep it a secret and resume their normal lives. According to Garin, just like in the book, they subsequently feel hunted and watched. The novel was also adapted into a film in 1976.

The media specialist also mentions that the actors are prohibited from speaking about the series, and that both Apple and Gaumont (the producer of the series, which has also apparently attempted to erase all traces of it) are considering legal action against the director.
