Test de l’Amazfit Bip 6 : une montre de sport efficace et vraiment pas chère, ça existe
The Amazfit Bip 6, offered by the Chinese brand, presents a truly accessible alternative to the most renowned sports watches in the industry. Here is a full review of it.

Already known for offering sports watches at particularly competitive prices, the Chinese brand Amazfit now introduces the Amazfit Bip 6. Priced at less than 80 euros, this watch boasts several advantages and could compete with models that are three to four times more expensive.

But what about its performance beyond the specs? That’s what we’re going to find out in this comprehensive review of the Amazfit Bip 6.

Amazfit Bip 6A Lightweight Watch with a Square Design

Announced last February, along with the Amazfit Active 2, the Amazfit Bip 6 features a design quite different from its predecessor, the Amazfit Bip 5. This new model sports a square shape reminiscent of an Apple Watch, a Huawei Watch Fit 4, or a Redmi Watch 5.

Unlike the other mentioned watches, the Bip 6 does not have a rotating crown but instead has two buttons on the side: a smooth button and a textured button, making it easy to pause a workout.

Given the watch’s price, Amazfit logically opted for a plastic case. This not only reduces costs but also allows for a relatively light weight of 27.9 grams. In use, the watch is easily forgotten and its contained mass prevents it from moving around the wrist due to inertia. However, it’s worth noting that the Chinese brand included aluminum borders around the screen to offer a design slightly more refined than plain plastic. To protect the screen, it also features a simple tempered glass cover, not Gorilla Glass or, more importantly, sapphire glass. Logically, Amazfit has also certified the watch with a 5 ATM rating, meaning it can be worn in the rain or swimming, though deep diving should be avoided.

As for dimensions, the watch measures 46.3 x 40.2 x 10.45 mm. It’s quite comfortable if you like somewhat bulky watches, but for small wrists, this might not be ideal. The Bip 6’s screen occupies 52.9% of the watch’s surface, so there are relatively noticeable black borders around the screen but behind the glass.

Finally, regarding the strap, the Amazfit Bip 6 does not integrate horns. It’s still possible to change the strap — 22 mm wide — but it’s better to opt for a brand-specific model to avoid compatibility issues at the attachment point. By default, the watch comes with a liquid silicone strap.

Amazfit Bip 6A Large Display Lacking Some Details

The Amazfit Bip 6 features a large 1.97-inch diagonal Amoled screen. For comparison, this is slightly smaller than the 1.97-inch diagonal of the Apple Watch Series 10 in its 46 mm version.

The watch also has a resolution of 390 x 450 pixels for a pixel density of 302 pixels per inch. This is sufficient for typical use, but when bringing the screen close to the eyes, some pixelation can be detected on the texts and data displayed on the panel.

The Amazfit watch can also reach fairly high brightness levels, going up to 2000 cd/m² if necessary. This lighting is generally found in higher-end watches and is sufficient for exercising in bright sunlight without being bothered by sun reflections. If the ambient light decreases, the watch’s fairly responsive light sensor will reduce the screen’s brightness in just a few seconds.

Moreover, the Amazfit Bip 6 benefits from an always-on display mode, allowing the screen to stay on even when you’re not raising your wrist to look at it. This mode is programmable and can therefore be activated only during the day, just like the function that turns on the screen when you raise your wrist. This is a good way to avoid being dazzled by your dial in the middle of the night due to a simple arm movement.

As for the watch faces offered, the Amazfit Bip 6 natively includes six, but with little customization possible except for the colors on one of them. Fortunately, you can find many more within the Zepp app, with numerous free or paid models, priced at 1.99 or 2.99 euros.

Amazfit Bip 6A Clear Interface, but Few Third-Party Apps

Like all Amazfit watches, the Bip 6 is compatible with both Android smartphones and iPhones. It requires installing the Zepp app on your smartphone to set up the watch and gradually retrieve your health and training data.

Zepp (formerly Amazfit)

Download for free

To navigate the Amazfit Bip 6 interface, it mainly involves using the watch’s touchscreen:

  • swipe down: quick settings;
  • swipe up: notifications;
  • swipe left or right: application widgets;
  • single press on the textured button: applications / return to watch face;
  • long press on the textured button: Zepp Flow voice assistant (customizable);
  • short press on the smooth button: Exercise app (customizable);
  • long press on the smooth button: power-off menu.

Here we have a relatively classic interface that should not confuse people already accustomed to an Amazfit watch, a Huawei model, or even a Wear OS watch. On a positive note, it is possible to customize the shortcuts for a long press on the top button or a short press on the bottom one.

As a reminder, the Zepp Flow voice assistant is particularly effective, as it is based on GPT 4o. It can thus be used not only to set a timer but also to ask training-related questions. With the microphone and speaker, interactions can be done in natural language, and it is also possible to make phone calls. It’s also worth mentioning the ability to reply to received messages using a virtual keyboard or voice transcription, at least on Android.

However, aside from the apps pre-installed by Amazfit, it must be noted that the catalog of third-party apps is quite limited. Indeed, more than 200 apps are offered for download, but they are mostly very gimmicky, and we are far from the Wear OS ecosystem. Don’t expect to find official apps for WhatsApp, CityMapper, or Spotify, for example — and you won’t be able to store music on the watch either. However, it’s worth noting the presence of official apps for GoPro and DJI cameras.

Lastly, another missing feature worth mentioning is contactless payment, which is also not offered on this entry-level smartwatch.

Amazfit Bip 6A Watch with Excellent Sports Tracking

For health and exercise tracking, the Amazfit Bip 6 is quite well equipped. Indeed, most of the sensors expected on a smartwatch can be found, including a 6-axis gyroscope and an accelerometer for movements, a multi GNSS GPS chip, an optical heart rate sensor, a compass, and a pulse oximeter.

Logically for this price, the Amazfit watch does not include an electrocardiogram. It also lacks a barometric altimeter for evaluating elevation.

The GPS Accuracy of the Amazfit Bip 6

Regarding GPS tracking, the Amazfit Bip 6 features a multi-GNSS chip supporting five satellite constellations. Amazfit does not specify, however, whether the watch is compatible with dual-frequency GPS.

To assess the reliability of the watch’s GPS tracking, I wore it on my wrist during several running workouts. I then compared both the distances and the tracks recorded by the Bip 6 with those of a high-end sports watch, the Garmin Fenix 8.

Runs Reference Amazfit Bip 6 Difference
Run 1 (city) 11.100 km 10.997 km -0.93 %
Run 2 (park) 9.472 km 9.540 km +0.72 %
Run 3 (track) 9.979 km 9.937 km -0.42 %
Run 4 (park) 14.057 km 14.071 km +0.10 %
Total 44.618 km 44.545 km -0.16 %

Overall, the Bip 6 does not have much to be ashamed of regarding its GPS accuracy compared to the Garmin watch, with a relatively low error margin, especially for a watch under 100 euros.
