An Update on AirTag’s Impact on Airline Luggage Management
In a recent press release from December, SITA provided an update on its partnership with Apple, one year following the implementation of a feature in iOS 18.2. This feature allows temporary location sharing of AirTags with airlines in the event of lost luggage. SITA, which offers baggage management solutions to over 2,800 airports and 500 airlines, reported that “bags equipped with an AirTag or a device from the Find My network saw a 90% decrease in the number of bags truly lost thanks to the location sharing through WorldTracer”, which is their system for managing lost and delayed baggage.
Enhanced Recovery of Delayed Luggage
The integration of AirTags has not only reduced the number of lost items but has also significantly sped up the process of recovering delayed luggage. SITA’s statistics indicate an impressive “26% reduction in the time it takes to recover delayed luggage”. Currently, the feature is adopted by 29 airlines, and SITA anticipates that “more airlines are expected to adopt it in the coming months.”
