iPhone Air 2 Update: Get Ready for a Sleeker Dynamic Island!

Following the release of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September, Apple’s next smartphone, the iPhone Air 2 expected in early 2027, is set to feature a narrower Dynamic Island, according to analyst Jeff Pu quoted by 9To5Mac. This reduction in the width of the front sensor pill on the iPhone Air 2 would create the necessary space for adding a second rear camera. The sensors used by Apple could also become thinner.

The slimming of the Dynamic Island would be made possible by embedding the infrared sensor beneath the pixels of the OLED panel. This sensor would then be relocated to the left corner of the screen, as seen in an image from the cyberattack on Tata Electronics that showed the front sensors of the iPhone 18 Pro, thus freeing up space in the center of the device.

Multiple sources, including the well-informed Mark Gurman, suggest that Apple plans to add a second camera to the iPhone Air without altering its design. This shift in placement would free up space in the center of the back plate to accommodate this additional sensor.

Jeff Pu also unsurprisingly mentions that the iPhone Air 2 would be equipped with the A20 Pro chip, set to debut on the iPhone 18 Pro next month. Finely manufactured by TSMC, it would offer better energy efficiency and, along with the future C2 modem, help to enhance the iPhone Air’s battery life. The battery capacity might also increase. The RAM would remain at 12 GB, and the chassis would continue to be made of titanium.
