I Tested the Insta360 Luna Ultra: A Stunning First Try Against DJI, But At What Cost?

For a long time, DJI was alone in a market it created in 2018, but today it faces its first serious competitor challenging it on its own turf. In mid-April 2026, the manufacturer released an Osmo Pocket 4 with rather modest updates — a strategic move to save some features for the upcoming Osmo Pocket 4P. However, Insta360 had been preparing its strategy for some time (read: several years) and found the perfect opportunity to strike.

The persistent leaks are over, the brand plays its hand and officially launches its flagship, the renowned Luna Ultra. Highlights include: a dual camera module co-developed with Leica (finally including that much-anticipated telephoto lens), 8K resolution, and notably a detachable screen that doubles as a wireless remote. On paper, it’s a blockbuster entry into the pocket camera market.
