Initially introduced in a private beta during Adobe MAX in October 2025, the AI Assistant for Photoshop is now transitioning to a public beta version available today on web, iOS, and Android. Simultaneously, the image editor Firefly is introducing five new generative features, as stated in a company press release.
Photoshop: A Conversational Assistant for Editing Images via Descriptions
Widely released this Tuesday, the AI Assistant in Photoshop allows users to edit or modify image elements through natural language queries. This includes removing unwanted elements, changing backgrounds, adjusting colors, or modifying lighting—the possibilities are extensive. “You can choose to let the AI Assistant apply changes automatically or guide you step-by-step to learn throughout the process,” Adobe explains. On mobile devices, these requests can also be made via voice commands.
The web version of Photoshop also introduces a feature called AI Markup, also in public beta. Accessible from the taskbar, it allows users to draw directly on an image to target a specific area, then attach a text prompt. “For example, you can mark an area of the image, then enter a prompt to add flowers or mountains,” Adobe illustrates.
