Apple Sports App Expands to Eight More Countries
Initially launched in February 2024 in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, the Apple Sports application designed for sports tracking has made its way to eight additional countries as of September 2025. This expansion includes France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Iceland, and Portugal. According to MacRumors, this rollout now extends to several other European nations, including Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Poland, Hungary, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Greece, Estonia, Latvia, Romania, Ukraine, “among others.”
Potential Implications of the Expansion
While the expansion of the Apple Sports app is certainly good news for users in these countries, it might also hint at larger strategic moves by Apple. It’s interesting to note that the first expansion into European markets coincided with the start of the 2025-2026 Champions League. This Tuesday, UEFA is set to announce the official broadcasters for the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League starting from 2027. Apple TV has been clear about its ambitions to become a leading sports broadcaster. The streaming service has already made significant inroads in the American market by securing broadcasting rights for Major League Baseball (MLB), Major League Soccer (MLS), and will soon include Formula 1 from next year. Targeting the European market could be a strategic next step for Apple.
