Major Update Anticipated for Apple TV 4K This Fall
The Apple TV 4K is poised to receive a significant upgrade this autumn. Mark Gurman has been hinting for months at a new model expected by the end of the year, though the specifics of the processor were not disclosed until recently. According to a revelation by MacRumors from Apple’s code, the upcoming device is set to feature the A17 Pro chip, replacing the current A15 chip. This advancement is notable as the new chip is considerably more powerful, equipped with 8 GB of RAM, enabling support for more demanding video games as well as features from Apple Intelligence, which have not been included in tvOS to date.
Internal Development of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Chip
Gurman also discussed Apple’s first internally developed chip that will handle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth operations. This chip is expected to significantly save on energy consumption in the upcoming iPhone 17 Air, which is set to be announced next month. However, the energy savings might be less critical for a device like the Apple TV that remains connected to a power source. While other enhancements are possible, they have not yet been the subject of rumors.
Potential Announcement Timelines
Regarding the announcement, it is entirely possible that Apple will unveil this new model during its annual fall conference scheduled for September 9. However, the company could also opt to wait a few more weeks and introduce the new generation of Apple TV through a simple press release, similar to the launch of the current model in late October three years ago.
