Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Released: Are the Upgrades Worth the Price Hike?

July 18, 2025

Les Galaxy Watch 8 de Samsung sont là : assez d’améliorations pour justifier la hausse de prix ?

Samsung has launched its new series of smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 8, available in two models: standard and Classic. Let’s explore what these devices offer.

During Samsung’s summer Unpacked event, not only were the new Galaxy Z Flip and Fold smartphones showcased, but the event also excited smartwatch enthusiasts. The Galaxy Watch 8 series was formally introduced after several months of leaks that hinted strongly at the features they would offer. Two models were unveiled: the Watch 8 and the Watch 8 Classic.

Given that Samsung has raised the prices for its latest smartwatch series, comparisons with the previous generation are inevitable. Potential buyers will need to be convinced that the higher prices are warranted before making a purchase. However, price might not be the only factor for consideration; Samsung has made a bold design choice with the dial that might not appeal to everyone.

A Design Focused on Sleekness

Significant efforts by Samsung have been channeled into the design aspect. The Watch 8 is notably sleek, featuring a thickness of just 8.6 mm. The Classic model, making a significant comeback, is distinguished by a rotating dial and an action button inherited from the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Moreover, a new strap attachment system, promised to be more comfortable, has also been introduced.

Technical Specifications: An Improvement Over Last Year, Yet Stagnant in Some Areas

Each new generation of smartwatches is expected to outperform its predecessors, or at the very least, offer something extra that justifies a price increase. There are indeed some enhancements over the Galaxy Watch 7, but are they enough? Here is a detailed specification sheet for all models:

The materials include aluminum and a sapphire glass screen. Both models are naturally IP68 certified, allowing you to run in the rain or wear them to the pool.

Software Innovations Focused on Health with One UI 8.0 Watch

All Galaxy Watch models from 2025 will start with One UI 8.0 Watch, the latest version of Samsung’s dedicated smartwatch overlay. Based on Wear OS 6, it unsurprisingly emphasizes artificial intelligence, particularly to enhance the accuracy of various health measurements. The watch will suggest an ideal bedtime based on your profile, along with tips to help you fall asleep. The Now Bar, introduced with the Galaxy S25, will also be featured.

Runners will enjoy a brand-new dedicated coach. In addition to real-time advice and encouragement, it can provide training tailored to achieve a set goal, such as running a marathon. The coach also ensures that your training sessions are effective, checking that you are not running too slow or too fast for your optimal pace. To help you track your progress, it will assign you a runner level from 1 to 10.

Finally, it’s worth noting the introduction of new measurements. The vascular load will assess your body’s stress level based on various parameters like sleep, while the antioxidant index will provide your carotenoid level. Samsung notes that this is an antioxidant thought to reduce aging.
