If you own a Galaxy Watch 4, get ready for an upcoming update on your Samsung smartwatch. Although it’s not the most anticipated update, we still recommend installing it to keep your device secure.
Samsung has recently released a new update for the Galaxy Watch 4 series. However, don’t get too excited just yet: this isn’t the One UI 8 Watch update based on Wear OS 6, which, incidentally, requires users to part ways with a classic Google app.
The South Korean company continues to roll out its One UI 8 layer based on Android 16 across compatible smartphones, watches, and tablets, gradually upgrading them. However, it’s not yet time for the Galaxy Watches to receive this: the new update available provides “merely” a security patch. Still, it’s good news!

While Waiting for One UI 8 Watch, the August 2025 Security Update Hits the Galaxy Watch 4
This software update, which includes the August 2025 security patch, affects only the Bluetooth models of the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, as reported by our colleagues at SamMobile. The firmware’s new version ends with IYI1.
Even if you were hoping for One UI 8 Watch to land on your Galaxy Watch 4, don’t let disappointment cloud your judgment and update your device to benefit from the latest security patches—even though the October 2025 patch already rolling out on Galaxy smartphones and tablets is not included.
For now, the update for the Galaxy Watch 4 is only available in South Korea – the homeland of Samsung – but its expansion to other countries is expected soon. To check if the update is available on your device: open the Galaxy Wearable app > Settings > Software Update > Download and Install.
As for One UI 8 Watch, a little more patience is required before it reaches your smartwatch: while Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Watch 4 will indeed receive an update based on Wear OS 6, the South Korean brand has not provided a specific timetable.
