Among the new features revealed is the Magic Pointer, which allows users to shake the cursor to prompt contextual suggestions from Gemini, such as creating an event by pointing at a date. Users will also be able to create custom widgets on the fly, as well as integrate apps from an Android smartphone (similar to iPhone’s AirDrop) and Quick Access, which provides the ability to access files without needing to transfer them.
On the hardware front, details remain somewhat vague, except for the introduction of the Glowbar, a light bar located on the back of the screen that can change colors to provide various indications (notifications, activation of Gemini, etc.) and will make it easy to recognize a Googlebook at a glance. Google is collaborating with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to produce the first Googlebooks “with premium components and design”. With sights set on competing against the MacBook Neo and MacBook Air, the first models are expected to hit the market this fall.
