Meta contrôle parental chatbot IA

Meta has announced the introduction of new parental control options for AI chatbots used on Instagram, aimed at preventing children and teenagers from engaging in endless virtual conversations.

Instagram serves various purposes for its users. Some log in to catch up on the latest posts from friends and followed accounts, while others use it to share their own photos and videos. Additionally, users can now engage with artificial intelligence. This isn’t about the Meta AI assistant common across Mark Zuckerberg’s suite of apps, but rather chatbots with distinct “personalities” designed to mimic conversations with a unique human being.

This new form of interaction is especially popular among younger users, so much so that there is a noticeable trend of them preferring to talk to an AI rather than a real-life psychologist. The ease with which minors can initiate these conversations with a chatbot on Instagram has raised concerns among parents. In response, Meta is set to introduce new specific control options soon.

Meta to Enhance Parental Controls Over Instagram’s AI Chatbots

Meta’s parental control will soon be enhanced with three new features. The first option is the most stringent, as it completely restricts access to AI chatbots, with the exception of the Meta AI assistant. If that seems too extreme, the second option allows parents to block only specific chatbots of their choosing. To assist in this process, the third feature provides a report detailing the topics discussed between your child and the AI.

Parents won’t be able to see all the messages from the conversations, but will instead receive excerpts to ensure the discussions remain appropriate. It’s unclear how these excerpts will be selected, and it’s likely that resourceful teenagers might find ways to ensure that these summaries reveal nothing concerning. Meta has stated that these changes will “start with Instagram early next year,” without providing further details.
