Apple is continuing their word-friendly ad campaign for the iPhone 5, posting two new television spots, called “Brilliant” and “Discover”. These ads, like the others, focus on several apps from the over 700,000 iOS applications available on the App Store. The apps are then described using several words such as ‘sweet’ and ‘rise’.

The two new ads join Apple’s previous spots, ‘Alive’, ‘Together’ and ‘Hollywood’ which all highlight several apps including Gojee, Cards, Mike V: Skateboard Party, Starbucks,iBooks, MyScript Calculator, Philips Hue, GarageBand, The Elements for iPhone 4, Apple Maps, Cleartune, Solar Walk, iPhoto, Yelp, Shazam, and Infinity Blade 2.

Apple continues to add to its number of television spots, focusing specifically on the applications available on the App Store instead of the actually technology on the phone. Late Apple CEO Steve Jobs mentioned on several occasions that the screen is the focal point of the device and that this is where the entire experience of the iPhone is.

Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 5S this year and even a cheaper iPhone the following year, which will likely add more ads similar to this campaign, focusing on the use of the device as opposed to the technology in it.

HBO has made a move into yet another one of Apple’s products, allowing customers of its HBO GO streaming service to stream shows and movies on their Apple TV devices. On Tuesday, during the AllThingsD Dive Into Media Conference, Eric Kessler of HBO announced that the company will be adding support for its users to stream to their Apple TV devices via AirPlay.

Our longterm goal for Go is to be on all devices all platforms. HBO Go is HBO’s streaming service that allows subscribers to watch HBO content on PCs, tablets, and consoles.

With this new addition, HBO would only allow streaming of video from the HBO GO app as there is currently no available app for the Apple TV. Other streaming services such as Watchever, Netflix and Hulu Plus already have applications for the Apple TV, which allows users to browse directly through the device instead of channeling it through a MacBook or iOS device.

Despite the fact that Apple currently does not have an HBO app for the Apple TV, the two companies are reportedly working together to create a native HBO GO application for the Apple TV. The Apple TV only supports streaming content at this point, with Apple consistently adding new services in the US and abroad.

With rumors that Apple is looking to introduce a television set, it is very likely that the company will continue to add more content and perhaps even its own App Store for games, TV shows, and movies.

In the past year, rumors have suggested that Apple is working on a television set of its own to compete with the ‘Smart TVs’ out on the market from competitors such as Vizio and Samsung. Now, it seems that Apple is moving ahead with these plans and is beginning to make the rumored plans a reality.

According to the OLED Association, Apple has hired James (Jueng-jil) Lee, a senior researcher from LG Display, likely to help create a display much larger than any of Apple’s current products. At LG Display, Lee helped create a printed organic light-emitting diode (OLED) television and also has experience creating LCD displays at Samsung. Apple currently does not have any OLED products, and as a result, does not have any staff on board that is as knowledgeable about the technology as Lee.

Prior to joining LG Display, Dr. Lee was responsible for development at Cambridge Display Technology (CDT, now Sumitomo), the leading developer of solution-based polymer based OLED material. Dr. Lee is a part of the CTO’s organization and will draw on resources from Apple’s display group. He is no doubt more knowledgeable about OLEDs that any of Apple’s current staff, which is known to be quite strong.

OLED display technology is far superior to LCD technology, mainly because of its higher contrast ratio than LCD screens. OLED displays are typically thinner than LCD displays which affects Apple’s product line greatly as the company constantly strives to make its products thinner.

Apple has not released any details about whether or not it is planning to enter the television market anytime soon, however, CEO Tim Cook did note in an interview with NBC’s Brian William that this is “an area of intense interest”. By hiring Lee, it is made clear that Apple is looking into introducing a television set although an announcement timeframe remains unclear.

The Cupertino, California based company introduced the iPhone 5 a little over a month ago and has since then aired a number of television ads for the device. On Friday, Apple introduced and posted two new TV ads for the iPhone 5, called ‘Orchestra’ and another called ‘Turkey’.

‘Orchestra’ focuses on the noise cancelling microphone on the backside of the iPhone, that helps during a call. Apple uses video of an orchestra playing very loudly, followed by the narrator asking the maestro to turn it down, insisting that the microphone does something similar when a user is on a call.

Excuse me, maestro? Bring it down please!
Better.
That’s what happens to background noise when you’re making a call on this.
This microphone here picks up the sounds around you and helps turn them down.
So when the world gets noisy, calls sound better.

Apple’s second ad for the iPhone 5, ‘Turkey’ focuses on the Shared Photo Streams feature on iOS 6. The ad specifically identifies Thanksgiving and shows the iPhone 5 being used for taking pictures at a Thanksgiving dinner, followed by the images being shared via Photo Stream.

Well, it’s that time of year again.
You know, picture taking season?
And, with Photo Stream, you can share all the photos you want.

Apple has aired two new iPad mini television ads in the United States, highlighting the iPhoto app on the full sized iPad and iPad mini as well as iBooks on both devices. During the iPad mini media event, Apple played and later aired the first iPad mini ad, called ‘Piano’. The new ads, called ‘Photos’ and ‘Books’ very cleverly show the similarities between the fourth generation iPad and iPad mini, and shows the mini as a fully capable device.

The first ad, ‘Books‘ focuses specifically on iBooks, and shows the full sized iPad and iPad mini opening books with different titles, showing the difference in size between the two devices. However, Apple specifically chooses book pairings that show the distinction between each device, including titles such as: The Sun Also Rises and The Valley of the Moon; East of Eden and How the West Was Won; and, Moby Dick and Gone Fishing.

This shows how Apple focuses on displaying the iPad mini as a full iPad experience with all of the same features of a full sized device. The ad ends with pages of a book being flipped while a person holds the iPad mini in one hand followed simply by the words, ‘iPad mini’.

The second ad called ‘Photos’ shows the full sized iPad next to the mini, the same way as the previous ad, but this time shows off the iPhoto for iOS application. The ad shows both iPads running the app and syncing up the same photos, with one half on the full sized iPad and the other on the iPad mini while classic song, Two of a Kind by Bobby Darin and Johnny Mercer plays in the background.

Apple cleverly signifies the power and similarity of the iPad mini to the full sized iPad entirely through the song and several pictures on the screen, going back to its strategy of letting the device speak for itself and not focusing on technical details.

The ad shows off all of the new iPods in rapid succession, with the iPod touch bouncing along to music, which then “bounces” into two iPod nanos, followed by the iPod shuffle and so on.

Following the launch of the iPhone 5, Apple is now airing a series of television ads promoting their latest product. Apple began airing the iPhone 5 TV ads late Friday on national networks in the US, and focused on numerous features in iOS 6 and the hardware of the iPhone 5.

One of the ads, called “Thumb” focused on how the iPhone 5 is the perfect size for the user’s thumb, while another called “Cheese” highlighted the new Panorama feature in iOS 6. A third ad called “Physics” focused on the larger 4 inch screen of the iPhone 5. Apple even aired an ad for the new EarPods called “Ears”, showing off how the new headphones have a one size fits all ear shaped design.

All four of the new ads are voiced by actor Jeff Daniels, known for his role as Will McAvoy on HBO’s Newsroom. The ads appear to take on a humorous and humanistic approach, and focuses solely on the actual usage of the device rather than the technical specifications of the device. The ads also do not target any specific demographic, depicting the iPhone 5 as an all inclusive device. This is common in Apple’s ads and the Cupertino company seems to be continuing this approach in marketing its products.

For the past several months, intense rumors have surrounded the likelihood that Apple was looking to introduce a television set. However, over the past several weeks and days, reports are suggesting that Apple is negotiating with cable companies in order to introduce a new set top box with the capability of streaming live television. The new box will reportedly feature an interface similar to the iPad, likely a cross with OS X as well as social networking integration and DVR-like capabilities.

While this wouldn’t necessarily be Apple “television”, it would give users live channels and likely the ability to hook up the box to almost any projector or screen. It can perhaps even hook up to Apple’s own Cinema Display. In a report from The Wall Street Journal, Jessica E. Vascellaro And Shalini Ramachandran report on Apple’s new venture:

This could just be another in the long history of periodic feeling outs that Apple and Hollywood seem to feel compelled to engage in — a tug at the thread Apple CEO Tim Cook still feels is there.

According to the report, Apple is meeting with numerous cable operators to provide service for the device and is also approaching entertainment companies with a rough outline of the device’s features in order to draw them in. At this point, it is unclear what exactly Apple is planning, as they have also been reported to be testing television prototypes. Under the supervision of Steve Jobs, the company was looking to revolutionize the TV industry and create a more expansive version of it for the market.

Apple would likely achieve this in a very similar manner to the company’s introduction of iMessage to target carriers, albeit on a much larger and more risky scale. Although the current Apple TV sells quite well on the market, the Cupertino company has yet to introduce a device that can shake up the standard and make it much better than what the Apple TV is now, a set of apps that stream music, photos, and television shows. A set top box capable of streaming live television may be exactly that,

Early Wednesday, Amazon released an iPad app for its Instant Video service, Amazon Prime Instant Video. The service allows subscribers to rent and buy movies and television shows for offline viewing and competes with other major streaming giants such as Netflix. Amazon’s streaming also gives users the option to stream Prime Instant Video titles when connected to the internet.

Currently, other services such as Netflix only allow users to stream on the internet and do not provide an offline option. Now, these services will be available on the iPad, allowing Amazon to not only keep many of the customers they have but lure in new customers with the offerings on Apple’s popular tablet. With content on Amazon’s Prime Instant Video now available on iPad, users can stop streaming on one device, and resume on numerous others such as TV’s, a Mac or PC, and Amazon’s own Kindle Fire.

With Amazon Instant Video, you can:

– Stream thousands of titles available from Prime Instant Video at no additional cost with a Prime membership, or watch over 120,000 videos available from the Amazon Instant Video store
– Download purchased and rented videos from Your Video Library
– Shop over 120,000 videos available from the Amazon Instant Video store by visiting Amazon
– Add videos to your Watchlist from a PC, Mac, or Kindle Fire for later viewing on your iPad
– Subscribe to a TV Season Pass by visiting Amazon and episodes will automatically be available on your iPad the day after they air
– Start watching on your iPad, and resume watching right where you left off on a Kindle Fire, PS3, PC, Mac, or hundreds of models of connected TVs and Blu-ray players with Amazon Whispersync.

With this new service, it seems that Amazon is trying to get a leg up on Netflix and build a similar service but is using its Kindle Fire device to grab market share. Amazon Prime is available for $79 a year and also offers its customers free two day shipping and discounted overnight shipping.

Overall, this comes out to be a much cheaper and more convenient option when considering Netflix’s $7 a month charge which adds up to be more money and does not offer discounts on other products.

Amazon Instant Video is currently free {Direct Link} in the App Store and requires a subscription for log in.

On Tuesday, a report from Bloomberg suggested that Apple Inc. (AAPL) and parent company of ESPN, Disney, were in talks to bring the popular WatchESPN app to the Apple TV. The report mentioned a statement from ESPN executive Sean Bratches that the deal wasn’t imminent and is currently being hashed out between the two companies.

If AAPL were given the go ahead to bring the app over to the Apple TV, subscribers of select cable networks or subscribers of ESPN would be able to stream live games through the app. The WatchESPN app is currently available in Apple’s App Store and can be streamed on the iPad and iPhone as well as on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 gaming console. Bratches, the executive interviewed by Bloomberg also cleared up the negotiations between Apple and ESPN and explained the benefits of such a deal.

We’re a platform-agnostic company. To the extent that in the future there’s an opportunity with Apple to authenticate through the pay-TV food chain as we’re doing with Microsoft, that’s something we’ll participate in.

This wouldn’t be the first application pertaining to accessing live streaming sports on the Apple TV but would be one of the first major collaborations between the two companies. Currently, the Apple TV allows users to access NHL Gamecenter, MLB.tv and NBA League Pass.

If Apple strikes this deal with ESPN and brings the WatchESPN app over to the Apple TV, the company will likely be setting up for its rumored television set, which may incorporate an App Store of some sort, personal assistant Siri, as well as integrated features from the current Apple TV.

Last week Fortune released their “Fortune 500” list, organizing and releasing their list of the top 500 companies in the United States, in order by revenue. Apple has been experiencing strong quarterly growth over the years, and as a result, jumped up 18 spots on the list since last year to occupy #17 in the new list.

The company emerged from the tragic passing of co-founder Steve Jobs saddened but in no perceptible way weakened. Under CEO Tim Cook, the company continued pumping out new products — like a significantly upgraded version of the iPad tablet. Apple nearly doubled its earnings per share in 2011, compared to 2010.

That helped nudge management to announce plans for the firm’s first dividend since 1995, returning some of the $97.6 billion in cash it had accumulated. Apple fans and analysts alike also continue to await a long-rumored television set from the gadget maker.

Apple has continued to increase its revenue and its profits continuously over the last year of 2012 in order to become the most profitable company in the United States, with $25.9 billion in profit. Apple surpassed Exxon Mobil and Chevron, holding the #2 and #3 spots.

Apple will likely climb higher, reaching new heights in stock prices, breaking the $600 barrier with the arrival of new CEO Tim Cook. Apple is referred to as one of the greatest business comebacks in history, rebounding after being 3 weeks away from bankruptcy. With two successful quarters in 2012, Apple is setting itself up for another successful, possibly moving up further on the Fortune 500 in the coming months.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) has long been selling movies and television shows on its iTunes Store. Now, according to a Reuters report, the company is reportedly planning to bring EPIX movie streaming to the Apple TV, and likely the new rumored Apple television set. AAPL has been rumored to be in talks at this point, with no specific dates as to when the service will be available, if it ever does happen.

One of the sources told Reuters that any discussions would apply to its set-top box and also to upcoming devices that stream content. Apple is widely expected to unveil a full-fledged TV product later this year or in early 2013 to drive its next phase of growth and potentially revolutionize the industry.

Sources for the Reuters report suggest that negotiations between Apple and EPIX are still developing and that no deal should be expected in the near future. Bringing EPIX content to Apple TV and future Apple devices would allow the Cupertino company to develop and sell exclusive content, not available on a number of other devices.

Apple may also be waiting out a contract between EPIX and Netflix, which doesn’t end until later this September. Once this contract has ended, Apple will likely go ahead and secure a deal with EPIX.

Watch Bravo from your bedroom, take Food Network with you to the kitchen or catch up on CNBC news from the breakfast table.

Time Warner Cable currently offers over 196 channels through the app, although many of those will be based on location and availability in certain areas. The updated TWC TV app is now available on the App Store for free and is available as a universal app for the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch [App Store Link].

However, on Thursday, a statement from Sprint CEO Dan Hesse revealed that Sprint is doing exactly what they said they wouldn’t, throttling top 1% of data users on their network. This means that those who over use what is supposed to be unlimted data, are going to be downgraded to slower 2G speeds.

For those that want to abuse it, we can knock them off,” [Sprint CEO Dan] Hesse said at an investor conference Thursday. He said Sprint pares back data use for about 1% of users, a practice known as throttling.

[…]

“You’d be shocked how much data you use in a month,” Sprint asks in a recent television advertisement. “What happens if you go over? With Sprint, you don’t have to worry; only Sprint offers truly unlimited data.

In a Sprint ad, with AT&T and T-Mobile, Sprint points out that T-Mobile throttles its users, not carrying out what they promised. It seems now that Sprint has come to the realization that they must cut back in order to prevent a meltdown of their networks.

Hesse later clarified his statement, pointing out that users who roam on partner networks, such as Verizon with their Sprint iPhone and use more than 300 MB will be throttled.

However, it is interesting to note that most buildings and offices in major cities such as New York City and Los Angeles, often prevent the Sprint network from operating on the iPhone properly. In that case, many users are limited to partner networks and will have used well over 300MB on their iPhone over the course of a billing period.

The jailbreak community has always tried and been successful in giving users more options to customize their iOS device. Even as Apple tries its best to plug the security holes and bugs to get rid of ‘jailbreak’ the community continues to find new bugs and release updated tools to make jailbreaking possible.

The latest hack being developed by iOS developers Steven Troughton-Smith and TheMudKip is for second gen Apple TV that enables you to run iPhone / iPad apps at full screen on your HDTV. In order to achieve this the developers used a coded a custom Springboard for a jailbroken Apple TV.

Second gen Apple TV includes Apple’s A4 chip which is also used in fourth gen iPhone and iPod touch. A video posted on YouTube by the developers shows that iOS apps run quite well on the Apple TV. This is just a proof of concept as the hack appears to be still under development and not available for the public as yet.

Apple has been rumored to be developing Apple television and various rumors and reports in the past have suggested that the company could introduce apps specifically for its television and even expand iTunes store content to offer users more reasons to buy Apple’s television.

In Steve Jobs’ biography it was first time revealed that Apple was indeed researching a simple interface for the television and that Jobs had finally figured the way to build a TV with “simplest user interface you could imagine,”.

Since late last year, rumors about Apple looking to release a television set of their own to compete with other market leaders such as Sony and Vizio have been swirling on the web. On Monday, a report from Smarthouse suggested that Apple is already developing an Apple TV, its rumored television set in three different sizes ranging from 32 to 55 inches with the “newest chip”, the A6 which may also be released with the iPad 3.

Sources at a major Japanese company who are involved in manufacturing the TV believe that the 55″ model will compete with new Smart TVs from Samsung and LG that will have new processors built in while offering a combination of OLED display, as well as new Super HD TV technology from LG.

SmartHouse does not have a proven track record about Apple rumors, but the latest rumors regarding screen sizes are backed by a number of previous reports. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster also supported these claims, suggesting that Apple will be looking to include multiple screen sizes in its Apple TV. Apple may altogether be looking to synchronize the Apple TV (set-top box) and offer one integrated television set.

This would mean that Apple’s set-top box would disappear and the television would automatically come with a number of Apple features, including iTunes, its own App Store, AirPlay for music, videos, and game play, iCloud and other features currently available to the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Apple’s television could be a big hit in the market, as we are just beginning to see a number of “smart” TV sets sporting WiFi integration and web applications. Apple may be all set to revolutionize the television industry as they have done with portable music players, phones, and tablet computers.

The new Apple TV (ATV) reportedly runs on iPhone OS 4, is powered by Apple’s custom-built A4 processor, is capable of full 1080p HD and would cost only $99.

Engadget recently reported that they received details about the new Apple TV “by a source very close to Apple”

The report said:

Not only will this be priced to sell (like hotcakes), it seems that Apple is moving away from the model of local storage and will be focusing the new ATV on cloud-based storage (not unlike Amazon’s streaming scheme, though we’re talking instant-on 1080P, a la Microsoft),

For those still interested in keeping their content close, there will be an option to utilize a Time Capsule as an external storage component, but the main course will be about streaming.

The new Apple TV hardware will be small with only a power plug and video out and has been referred to some as “an iPhone without a screen” and will support only 16GB flash memory.

Apple’s recent acquisition of music streaming service LaLa proves the company’s intension to aggressively move towards cloud based services.

PatentlyApple recently published a patent filed by Apple which suggests that Apple TV could present a “Simulated iPhone” on a HDTV so that the user could make phone calls or interact with the iPhone Apps or even read iBooks.

We might not hear any announcements about the new Apple TV during this years WWDC however, Apple could possibly introduce it during its annual iPod event.
