Spotify’s audio streaming app is introducing a new feature that will excite those who fancy themselves as DJs. Here’s what it does and how to use it.
In recent times, Spotify’s audio streaming platform has often been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Whether it’s another price hike for the Premium subscription or the rather forceful implementation of age verification that leads to the shutdown of accounts for those unwilling to comply, it’s been tough. This has primarily affected English-speaking regions, but similar measures might be expected soon in France.
However, this time the news is positive. Spotify is rolling out a unique feature designed for listeners who love to seamlessly blend their playlists. While playlist transitions have been possible for a while, what’s changing is the way these transitions will now be handled. Spotify is introducing custom transition effects between your playlists, making it feel like you’re operating a DJ mixing board.
Spotify’s New Feature Will Unleash Your Inner DJ
When you open or create a playlist, a new Mix option appears among the icons above the song list. You then have two choices: use the Auto mode to let the app handle it, or customize the transitions yourself.

If you choose to customize, you can either use predefined effects like Fade for a smooth transition, or manually adjust the volume and equalizer settings. To assist you, starting a mix will display the BPM (beats per minute) for each track in the playlist. Finish up by clicking Save. You can activate or deactivate the results anytime using the Mix button.
The feature is still in beta, so not everyone has access to it yet. Note that it’s exclusively available to Spotify Premium subscribers. If you are one, make sure you’ve installed the latest version of the app before checking if the playlist transition customization is available on your device. Spotify has not announced when they plan to roll out the final version of this feature.
