Réseaux sociaux : 9 créateurs sur 10 montrent des signes d'épuisement

With mental health designated as the National Cause for 2025, Dailymotion is shedding light on a troubling reality: widespread burnout among content creators and the psychological vulnerabilities of the youth in the realm of social media.

In alignment with the World Mental Health Day, the platform has released its third edition of the Online Mental Health Barometer, developed in collaboration with YouGov and the e-Enfance/3018 association.

Content Creators Increasingly Drained by Algorithms

Amid an ever-growing array of content, a sense of weariness is setting in. According to the barometer, a staggering 91% of creators report signs of burnout, a figure that has risen and illustrates the relentless pressure exerted by platforms.

While 82% of them feel they are in good mental health overall, 80% admit they are forced to tailor their posts to suit algorithms to maintain visibility in news feeds. This relentless pursuit of visibility is causing direct consequences such as sleep disturbances, anxiety, and even a diminished joy in creating content.

Dailymotion notes that nearly half of all creators believe social networks negatively impact their mental balance. For the majority, algorithms are both a driver of success and a source of fatigue.

Youth Users, the Primary Victims of Digital Discontent

The statistics are equally alarming among users, especially those aged 18-24, whose mental health appears to be deteriorating, the study indicates. Indeed, 68% have reported recent psychological issues, often related to social comparison.

Half of the young users experience negative emotions after logging on, and 44% consider altering their appearance to more closely resemble the influencers they follow online.

While exposure to digital hate appears to be on the decline, with 17% of users reporting it compared to 22% last year, the overall sense of unease remains. Platforms are still struggling to rebuild trust, with only 4% of young people believing that the platforms’ efforts are adequate.

Towards a More Compassionate Digital World

In response to these findings, Dailymotion is advocating for a different vision of the social web. Guillaume Clément, the CEO of the platform, emphasizes the need to prioritize the quality of online interactions over merely driving engagement at any cost.

As some content creators, like MrBeast, express concerns about their future with the rise of AI, Dailymotion is focusing on causes close to its heart. This includes partnerships with e-Enfance / 3018 and Point de Contact to combat digital violence and promote a healthier online environment.
