Productivity apps are increasingly integrating AI features, and Slack is no exception. On Thursday, July 17, 2025, the platform announced in a blog post the rollout of several new AI-powered tools designed to save users even more time.
Summarizing Discussions on Slack is Now Possible
If you’re returning from a few weeks off, you might find hundreds of messages waiting in your chat channels. To help you catch up on the key points, Slack now offers a feature that summarizes discussion threads, highlighting crucial information you might have missed. You can choose to generate a summary of the last seven days or select a completely custom date range.

In just a few seconds, the AI generates brief messages for each event to convey the essentials. During our tests, we noticed that the tool doesn’t always pick the most relevant information, but it remains helpful for quickly catching up on a conversation.
A Built-in Search Tool on Slack
The communication platform also incorporates a search tool powered by AI. You can pose a question directly in the Search section as you would with a conversational agent. The tool then analyzes the conversation history to provide a relevant answer. “Quotes reference the source of the messages or files involved,” explains Slack. This feature is currently being rolled out and is available to users with Business+ and Enterprise+ subscriptions.
Translation, File Summaries, and Other AI-powered Updates on Slack
Slack has also introduced other less noticeable AI features, such as automatic message translation. Once you set your default language in the settings, the AI will automatically translate all messages into that language.
A new tool provides an automatic summary of your files as soon as they’re uploaded to Slack. Whether they are PDFs, Word documents, or Excel files, the AI generates a summary directly in your channels or private messages. This feature can be turned off in the platform settings.
Additionally, the app has integrated a Recap tool, which provides a summary of your day by offering a personalized overview of the messages you haven’t read. You can select the channels of interest that you haven’t had time to check during the day to ensure no important information is missed.
Like the search tool, all these features are in the process of being deployed and should be available in the coming weeks. They are also exclusively available to Business+ and Enterprise+ subscribers.
