Recent months have evidently been quite busy for WhatsApp, Meta’s popular messaging service. Just about ten days ago, WhatsApp unveiled four promising new features and had already indicated that more updates were expected to arrive in the app soon.

Although this new feature from WhatsApp is currently only available to a select group of users, there’s a possibility it could be rolled out across the entire application if it proves successful.
Automatic Summaries of Your Unread Messages
In its beta version for Android 2.25.18.18, available to some users of the Google Play Beta Program, WhatsApp is set to introduce a new feature that uses artificial intelligence to automatically summarize your unread messages.
Named Private Processing, the operation mode introduced by WhatsApp is quite straightforward and can be activated with just one click for conversations that have a large number of unread messages. By clicking on the “Summarize with Meta AI” button, which will take the place of the traditional message displaying the number of unread messages, WhatsApp users will be able to view a complete summary of the messages.
Data Storage Concerns?
In recent years, Meta has been targeted by regulatory authorities on several occasions, including in April when the company was fined for non-compliance with the DMA.
However, with this new feature, WhatsApp appears to have learned its lesson by taking extra precautions. According to the information available in the app when this feature is activated, no messages or content should be stored within the app.
To avoid any controversy, Meta has stated that the processing will be managed entirely in the cloud, in a completely isolated environment. The company also notes that once the messages are analyzed to generate a summary, they are automatically deleted.
An AI-Powered Drafting Aid Feature Under Development
As one might suspect since the launch of Meta AI, and following the impressive usage statistics of WhatsApp in May for the feature, the company appears determined to push forward in this area.
Indeed, according to WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp developers are currently working on a new feature that would allow message drafting via artificial intelligence. According to published information, this would enable users to refine drafted messages or write them in a different tone, although nothing has yet been confirmed by the company.
