Samsung Take Note: This Brand Masters the Art of Foldable Smartphones

Samsung ferait bien de s’inspirer de cette marque pour ses smartphones pliants, elle a tout compris

A manufacturer has just unveiled a groundbreaking feature designed to enhance the handling of multiple apps simultaneously. This multitasking system revolutionizes the use of foldable smartphones. Samsung, a leader in this format, has yet to offer anything similar.

In recent years, foldable smartphones have evolved beyond just having a flexible screen. They are now crafted as versatile tools suitable for work, gaming, or multitasking. Samsung leads the market with its Galaxy Z Fold series, yet its Asian competitors continue to push the boundaries of innovation. This time, it’s vivo that has caused a stir on the Weibo platform with a completely rethought approach to multitasking on large screens.

The vivo X Fold 5, set to launch on June 25 in China, features a new interface called Atomic Workbench. This system can display up to five apps at once, with one main app taking up the bulk of the screen space. The other four apps remain active in smaller areas at the top of the display. Each app continues to run even when in the background, allowing users to switch between them without needing to close or restart anything. This method is more sophisticated than OnePlus’s Open Canvas, which is limited to three apps.

vivo Races Ahead of Samsung with True Multitasking Innovation

This multitasking solution is designed to maximize the available space while maintaining smoothness and clarity. Its functionality is reminiscent of the Stage Manager in iPadOS, yet it focuses specifically on individual apps. Samsung, for its part, has long offered a three-window display on its Z Fold devices, but without significant advancements. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 has not introduced any major new multitasking features. And unless there are unexpected developments, the upcoming Z Fold 7 is unlikely to offer a solution as advanced as that of the vivo X Fold 5.

By combining powerful hardware with a truly adapted interface, vivo demonstrates that it’s possible to fully exploit a foldable screen. The X Fold 5 also boasts high-end features, such as announced compatibility with Apple watches, an IPX9 rating for water resistance, and a sleeker design than its competitors. According to vivo, it will be the lightest foldable phone in the world at the time of its release. If Samsung wishes to maintain its leadership in this segment, it will need to seriously reconsider how multitasking is utilized in its future models.
