Just days after the introduction of Voxtral, Mistral AI announced on Thursday, July 17, 2025, via a blog post, the rollout of several new features for The Chat. Among these are the in-depth research and advanced voice mode, aiming to directly compete with ChatGPT and Gemini.

In-depth Research: On Par with Perplexity and ChatGPT

The French company is eagerly stepping into the realm of generative AI leaders such as Google and OpenAI. To this end, Mistral AI has enhanced its chatbot, The Chat, with in-depth research capabilities, a research assistant designed to perform complex searches and provide detailed reports in response to user queries. Highly inspired by Deep Research on ChatGPT or Perplexity, this feature allows users to plan trips, compare products, or conduct local market research. The in-depth research function is now available to all fans of The Chat, with free accounts receiving five complimentary searches per month.

Advanced Voice Mode, Optimized by Voxtral

The first enhancement using Voxtral, Mistral AI’s new open-source model focused on audio, did not take long to appear. The company has now integrated an advanced voice mode that lets users “speak to The Chat as if speaking to a person, without the need to type.” This mode, which has been available on ChatGPT for months, makes interactions with the chatbot smoother and more natural.

Voxtral enhances the voice mode and is “designed for natural voice recognition and low-latency, adapting to your pace,” according to Mistral AI.

Multilingual Reasoning, Image Retouching, Projects… More Innovations from Mistral AI

Mistral AI is also advancing its reasoning model, Magistral, which was previously limited to English but now supports multiple languages, including French. This tool can respond in the language of your choice and can switch languages even within the same sentence.

You can also create folders on The Chat to organize certain discussions into a single project. Each “Project” maintains its own library and settings to keep everything as it is.

You can import files directly into a project, extract content from your libraries, and centralize all your conversations, documents, and ideas. Ideal for planning a move, designing a new feature, or managing long-term projects, explains Mistral AI.

Lastly, you can now modify images generated on The Chat if they do not meet your expectations. Simply describe to the chatbot what you wish to remove or change, and it will enhance your image accordingly.
