Following the rollout of GPT-5, OpenAI has implemented subtle changes to the ChatGPT interface. The chatbot now features a touch of whimsy, allowing users to customize the color of their chat bubbles, while the buttons have been redesigned for easier access to various features.
How to Customize the Color of Chat Bubbles in ChatGPT
With the release of GPT-5, OpenAI introduced a fun new feature: the ability to customize the color of chat bubbles during your interactions with the chatbot. This adds a bit of vibrancy to an otherwise plain interface. To change the color, click on your profile picture, navigate to Settings on the desktop version or Customization on mobile. Then, select your desired color from the 8 available options in Accent Color (see featured image).
It’s important to note that Plus subscribers have access to purple, while Pro subscribers can set their chat bubbles to black for a monthly fee of 229 euros!

The changes will be visible in your conversations with ChatGPT, with the AI maintaining its default color, while your comments and requests will appear in the color you selected. The voice mode button will also reflect this customized color.
Consolidated and Easily Accessible Options
Another significant update to the ChatGPT interface is the default setting of GPT-5 as the model for each conversation with the AI. Other models are available: the “thinking” version for extended reasoning on complex tasks or requests that require multiple steps, and a “Pro” version. Initially, the Pro version will be available exclusively to subscribers of the same name and offers enhanced capabilities compared to the standard model.
Similar to its models, ChatGPT has streamlined the variety of options it offers at the start or during a conversation. By clicking the + near the prompt box, you can now choose directly from:
- Agent mode,
- In-depth research,
- Image creation,
- Extended thinking time,
- Study and learn mode,
- Web search,
- Templates,
- Connectors to your tools,
- Importing images and files.
It’s worth noting: GPT-5 features new intelligent routing that enables it to autonomously activate these different modes to best respond to the user’s request. However, if you prefer the AI to focus on a single mode, you can configure this manually.
