Logitech MX Master 4 Review: Is This the Best Office Mouse Ever?

October 3, 2025

Test de la Logitech MX Master 4 : tout simplement la meilleure souris bureautique ?
Logitech returns with its new high-end office mouse, the MX Master 4. Featuring a redesigned construction and ergonomics, the mouse also gains in software functionality. Here’s our full review.

It has been nearly 6 years since Logitech released the MX Master 3, establishing the mouse as a must-have staple for professionals and creatives.

Following a “remastered” version in 2022 with the MX Master 3S, Logitech is back with the highly anticipated MX Master 4. The mouse retains the strong features of the previous models while addressing some of its minor weaknesses.

Most importantly, it introduces significant new features for your productivity, both on the mouse itself and across all software aspects.

Design and Ergonomics

The Logitech MX Master 4 maintains the design that is a hallmark of the series with its elevated shape and iconic thumb rest.

The grip is designed to be as ergonomic as possible, conforming to the shape of the hand which rests in a more natural position. We find ourselves halfway between a symmetrically shaped mouse and one like the MX Vertical.

Your hand will adapt to the MX Master 4 in seconds, and you’ll quickly find yourself in a comfortable posture for many hours of work.

However, the mouse has changed slightly in shape and weight this year compared to the MX Master 3S: it’s wider and longer, and also heavier by 9g (totaling 150g). We have criticized the weight of the mouse in the past, and it remains a point of weakness in our view for this MX Master 4. The maneuverability is not optimal during many successive movements, nor are potential mouse lifts.

Logitech has notably reduced the use of rubber coating, favoring a smooth, stain-resistant plastic texture that is inevitably more slippery. In daily use, one gets used to it very quickly, but those accustomed to previous versions will need a little time to adapt.

In terms of overall ergonomics, there are numerous additions. The main buttons remain a strong point of the mouse, with their pleasant and ultra-silent click. They are larger this year, positioned around the scroll wheel, providing a much more comfortable clicking area.

The various side buttons have been repositioned to allow for the addition of a new haptic button. Thus, the “gesture button” that was placed on the thumb rest of the 3S is now positioned next to the forward/backward buttons, which are slightly recessed. By default, it launches the Stage Manager on Mac to quickly switch from one application to another.

A major new feature is the brand-new “haptic panel,” a kind of curved button that takes up the entire shape of the thumb rest with a rubber texture. It will vibrate during certain specific actions configurable in the Logi Options+ app.

The feel of the haptic feedback is similar (though less subtle) to that on a Dual Sense controller or a Nintendo Switch 2. We have been using it daily for over two weeks and found it not only unobtrusive but actually quite pleasant to use. It’s possible to adjust the intensity for a more measured feedback. We preferred a low setting, which we found more comfortable during long work sessions.

Software Features

Ergonomics is just one part of the equation for users, who also expect software features to enhance their productivity. The MX Master 4 relies on Logi Options+, the software that allows you to customize the keys on your mouse, as well as the function of the side haptic panel.

You can configure the scroll wheel to activate the SmartShift feature for automatically switching from line-by-line to fast and smooth scrolling. Already present on the 3S model, it proves very handy for adapting on-the-fly to your scrolling preferences. The side scroll wheel allows for horizontal scrolling (no surprise there), but also for switching tabs in your browser. Quite convenient. The Flow option still allows the use of the mouse across multiple machines by moving the cursor from one screen to another.

But the main novelty this year is the integration of the Action Ring, a series of shortcuts arranged in a circle around the cursor to quickly access numerous actions on your system via the haptic surface.

Each button is, of course, configurable, to launch any application, take a screenshot, copy text to an AI rephrasing tool, or even lock your computer.

The real strength of this tool lies in the integration of third-party software, such as creative tools (Photoshop, Premiere) or communication tools like Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Logi Options+ will detect the presence of these software on your computer and allow you to display customized actions within the Actions Ring when they are launched.

Photoshop tools such as the lasso, exposure, and magic eraser will be accessible with a click on the side haptic button. All software actions are offered within Logi Options+ to quickly access those you use most frequently.

This requires some adaptation effort, especially when our muscle memory is accustomed to certain mouse movements on these software. But in the long term, it saves time on many repetitive actions.

We had already tested this feature with the MX Creative Console from Logitech released in 2024. With the MX Master 4, it gains in speed and can integrate perfectly into your work style.

The only regret: some plugins like those for Photoshop and Premiere Pro have not yet been translated into French. It remains possible to manually rename the actions if the English names are off-putting. We imagine that future updates will harmonize the plugins in terms of their localization.

Battery Life and Connectivity

Logitech promises up to 70 days of battery life on a single charge. We’re not talking about 1680 hours of battery life, but 70 workdays. While we haven’t been able to test this claim to its fullest, we can tell you that after two weeks of daily use, we are still at about 75% remaining battery life. Charging is done via a USB-C cable, with a battery life of 3 hours in just one minute of charging.

The connectivity remains similar to previous models, but the MX Master 4 is equipped with a new, even more compact USB-C dongle. Logitech promises a “twice as powerful” signal to counter any potential wireless connection interruptions. Unsurprisingly, you can use the mouse from a (very) long distance without losing signal.

Price and Availability

The Logitech MX Master 4 mouse is available at a price of 129.99 euros on Logitech’s website as well as from all e-retailers.

This is the launch price of the MX Master 3S in 2022, a 20 euro increase compared to the MX Master 3 and previous versions.

While we wouldn’t recommend the upgrade for owners of the 3S model, as this new version retains many of the same features, the addition of the haptic button and the switch to USB-C could be serious selling points.
