Exciting updates in photography and videography are expected with the iPhone 17, as Apple plans to catch up with a feature long available on Android devices.

While iPhones may occasionally lag behind the top Android smartphones in terms of photography, Apple’s devices stand unrivaled when it comes to video quality and capabilities. However, iPhones have been missing a crucial feature for years: a native vlog mode that allows recording with both the rear and front cameras simultaneously. This feature would simplify content creation for social media or YouTube. Currently, users need to rely on third-party apps to use both cameras at the same time.

This omission is particularly surprising since such a feature has been around on Android for quite some time. A few years ago, the brand Honor heavily promoted its new models by highlighting its vlog mode. Going even further back, Samsung’s Galaxy S4, released in 2013, already included this feature, as noted by PhoneArena. Back then, it was possible to customize the size and shape of the selfie camera’s video feed, with the main sensor’s footage taking up the bulk of the screen.

Potential for an 8x Optical Zoom?

This gap may soon be closed. Alongside the iPhone 17, Apple is expected to launch a new professional app (or a significant overhaul of Final Cut Camera), which would include this dual recording capability. The company has realized that many users turn to third-party apps for advanced camera functions and aims to bring them back into its ecosystem. However, the native Camera app is not expected to include this feature. It remains unclear whether this app will be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro models, or if it will also be available for other iPhone 17 models or even older iPhones.

Additionally, a second camera control button might be introduced on this generation of iPhones. It would be located on the upper edge of the device, as opposed to the current button positioned at the bottom. A telephoto lens with multiple focal lengths, capable of up to an 8x optical zoom, may also be featured on the iPhone 17 Pro models.
