The past few weeks have been relatively quiet regarding announcements about image generation models, and this is reflected in the latest update of the Text to Image Arena rankings, where their performance is measured in real-time through user votes. For the fourth consecutive month, OpenAI leads the pack with 4o Image Generation, the model that succeeded DALL-E 3, while its competitors vie for the remaining top spots.
Top 10 Image Generators of July 2025
Scoring an Elo rating of 1,167, 4o Image Generation, which has been integrated into ChatGPT since March, retains its position as the top-ranked image generation model this month. Its adherence to user prompts, its ability to generate legible text, and the quality of its visuals have made it a favorite among platform users, who vote blindly between two images generated by anonymized models.
As in June, OpenAI’s model is ahead of Seedream 3.0, a model developed by ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, and Imagen 4 Preview, which has been comfortably on the podium since May. Historically lagging in image generation, Google now has three iterations of Imagen in the top 10, holding the 3rd, 4th, and 8th positions.

Following the leading trio, the longstanding players in the sector are jockeying for position. Black Forest Labs, which had long dominated this ranking, now ranks 6th with FLUX.1 Kontext, just ahead of Recraft and its V3. Reve, once at the top of the rankings, has fallen to 10th place. Notably, HiDream has made a significant entry, placing its newly launched model Vivago 2.0 in the 5th position.

Ranking Criteria of the Text to Image Arena
The ranking system used by Artificial Analysis is quite similar to that of the LMArena (formerly Chatbot Arena), which evaluates the performance of major language models. The concept involves users blindly comparing the results generated by two anonymized models based on the same prompt. Each model is assigned an Elo score based on its performance. Borrowed from chess, the Elo ranking system functions as an evolving rating, reflecting the probability of victory: beating a higher-ranked model increases the score, while losing to a lower-ranked model decreases it.
