Apple Unveils Latest Quarterly Financial Results
Apple announced its latest quarterly financial results last night, confirming the recent rumors: yes, the new iPhone 17 lineup has been a commercial success. This quarter, the iPhone generated $49 billion in revenue, marking a 6% increase compared to the same period last year.
Apple CEO Tim Cook explained that this growth occurred even though the company had underestimated the demand for several models, but declined to disclose by how much: “We do not publicly share the extent of this discrepancy.” However, Cook did express surprise at the demand for the iPhone 16, whose price was reduced following the release of the iPhone 17: “It wasn’t directly related to production capacity. We had decided to produce a certain number of iPhone 16 units, and we ended up being slightly short on supply.”
Regarding the new lineup, one must read between the lines: “It’s still too early to comment on the sales mix, and we don’t release this data publicly for competitive reasons, but we don’t yet know what this mix will look like because we face production constraints at both the entry-level and high-end.” This confirms that the demand for the entry-level iPhone 17, as well as the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max at the high end, has exceeded Apple’s initial expectations. This implies that this isn’t the case for the iPhone Air.
Manufacturing and Stock Availability
Tim Cook confirmed that the factories of its subcontractors are operating at full capacity to meet the demand, ensuring that all models are in stock as the holiday season approaches. “We cannot predict when supply and demand will balance out. We are obviously working hard to achieve this and want to distribute as many of these products as possible. I won’t make any predictions today.” Given this situation, initial promotions on the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max might take longer than usual to appear. Conversely, significant discounts are already available on the iPhone Air, and Apple might even be cutting its production. We continue to relay the best daily deals in our promotions.
