To showcase the durability of the hinge on its Magic V5, Honor conducted a stress test that earned the device a spot in the Guinness World Records.
As we anticipate its launch in Europe in the upcoming weeks, the Honor Magic V5 has already made a positive impression during initial reviews. A key concern with foldable smartphones, aside from their cost, is their robustness and longevity. Manufacturers are keen to persuade consumers of the durability of their products and to alleviate any concerns about potential usage problems.
In a bid to demonstrate the strength of its Magic V5, Honor has achieved a record recognized by the prestigious Guinness Book. Officially, the device now holds the record for the heaviest weight lifted by a suspended foldable smartphone. On August 1st, in Dubai, the Magic V5 successfully lifted 104 kg in this manner.
The Honor Magic V5 Hinge Test
“An 84 kg refrigerator, along with 20 kg of weight plates, was lifted using a fabric strap attached to the center of the Magic V5’s hinge, in a bold and memorable display of strength,” states the Guinness Book. “Honor wanted to highlight the robustness of the hinge on its Magic V5 foldable phone. The company thus took on the challenge of suspending and lifting over 100 kilograms using the phone’s hinge,” the organization detailed.

The hinge of the Magic V5 is designed to withstand a tensile strength of 2,300 MPa and is purported to endure 500,000 folds, according to Honor. The hinge is a component whose integrity can pose risks and cause concern among users. By performing such a stunt, and partnering with a well-known entity like the Guinness Book, Honor aims to reassure customers and promote its new foldable smartphone.
Prior to this, the brand had already proven the device’s resilience. The Magic V5 had withstood heavy rainfall, extreme temperatures, and impacts from steel ball bearings. It may be expensive, but at least it’s built to withstand rough conditions without easily getting damaged.
