Agent HQ, GitHub’s platform that assigns programming tasks to artificial intelligence agents, now also supports solutions from Anthropic and OpenAI, in addition to Copilot.

Claude and Codex have now been officially integrated into GitHub. Mario Rodriguez, the chief product officer of the Microsoft-owned platform, announced on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, in a blog post, their deployment within Agent HQ, the hub that centralizes programming agents developed by third-party providers. Currently available in public preview, these two solutions are initially available only to Copilot Pro+ and Copilot Enterprise subscribers, with plans for a broader rollout soon.

Agent HQ Users Can Assign Tasks to Claude and Codex

Launched in October 2025 during GitHub Universe, Agent HQ acts as a “unified command center” where programming tasks can be assigned to a “fleet of agents” primarily designed by third-party partners. Until now, Copilot, developed by Microsoft, was the only fully operational agent on the platform. Codex, the AI agent from OpenAI, had only been deployed in a very limited capacity: access was restricted to Copilot Pro+ subscribers who were part of the VS Code Insiders program.

But that has changed. Now, from GitHub, GitHub Mobile, and Visual Studio Code, developers can utilize Claude, Codex, Copilot, or their own custom agent to perform a variety of tasks, such as submitting code, annotating pull requests, or handling tickets. “You can have them work asynchronously, then review the results at your own pace,” the announcement explains. Each session with an agent consumes a “premium request,” capped at 1500 per month for Copilot Pro+ subscribers and 1000 per month per user for the Copilot Enterprise package.

With Codex, Claude, and Copilot in Agent HQ, you can move from idea to implementation using different agents for different tasks without switching tools or losing context, GitHub boasts.

Agents from Google or xAI to Be Deployed on Agent HQ Soon

GitHub, which already integrates major language models from Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google within GitHub Copilot, plans to continue this trend. Access to Codex and Claude will be gradually expanded in the coming weeks, while other agents are also expected to join Agent HQ. “We are actively working with partners, including Google, Cognition, and xAI, to bring more specialized agents into the GitHub, VS Code, and Copilot CLI workflows,” the announcement notes.
