On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, during its annual GitHub Universe event in San Francisco, GitHub introduced Agent HQ, a new hub set to incorporate AI agents from external partners like Codex (OpenAI), Jules (Google), and Claude (Anthropic) in the coming months. These development-focused assistants will be integrated directly into the platform and made available to GitHub Copilot’s paid subscribers.
GitHub Establishes a Command Center for Development-Focused AI Agents
GitHub, which boasts 180 million active monthly users, will offer a new dashboard named Mission Control. Described as “a unified command center”, it will enable users to “direct, monitor, and manage all AI-driven tasks”, according to a press release. The American company, acquired by Microsoft in 2018, notes that it will be possible to assign one or more tasks simultaneously to different members of its “fleet of agents”, allowing developers to compare outcomes and choose the most suitable one. Users will also be able to track task progress and adjust their requests in real time.

Codex, the First Agent to be Available on the Platform
Codex, the OpenAI agent capable of writing code, fixing bugs, and running tests, is the first to be integrated into this new interface. It is already available to users who are subscribed to Copilot Pro+ and are part of the VS Code Insiders program, which offers early access to new features. GitHub’s coding agent, unveiled in May at the Microsoft Build event, can also be accessed via Mission Control.
In the coming months, these two agents will be joined by those developed by Anthropic, Google, xAI, and Cognition. GitHub has not yet announced a specific date for their deployment.
