Exclusive Reveal: Google Pixel 10 Pro & Pixel 10 Pro XL – Where’s the Wow Factor?

I have had the chance to explore the newly launched Google Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL. These phones are quite enticing in many ways, yet one question lingers: will these smartphones manage to amaze us?

This question isn’t meant to belittle or doubt the quality of the Pixel 10 Pro and its larger sibling, the Pixel 10 Pro XL—certainly not without a full review. This query arises simply because the conditions under which the smartphones were handled didn’t allow me to form a solid initial opinion.

Conditions for Handling the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL

We had a strict one-hour timeframe to explore all the products announced by Google, and all the smartphones available were locked with a code and fingerprint.

Therefore, I couldn’t personally test the capabilities of the triple rear camera, gauge what the new Tensor G5 chip could do, or even experience the software firsthand.

I did witness some demonstrations of AI features detailed in another article, but these were conducted by Google representatives.

This was also an opportunity to see the promising capabilities of the 100x digital zoom on these Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL models.

But I’ll avoid digressing. This article mainly serves to showcase our photos of the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL.

A Design Almost Unchanged

The Pixel 10 Pro bears a striking resemblance to the Pixel 9 Pro. The horizontal camera block is still present and likely won’t vanish from future generations as it has become a hallmark of the brand.

It features glossy flat edges while the back is matte with a Google ‘G’ logo in metal, making it stand out with a shiny effect.

The device is very comfortable to hold, carefully crafted with edges that are not too sharp, avoiding any cutting effect in the palm.

I mentioned earlier the similarity between the Pixel 10 Pro and its predecessors. To emphasize this, I would like to share the dimensions of the products.

• Pixel 10 Pro: 152.8 x 72 x 8.6 mm with a 6.3-inch screen.
• Pixel 10 Pro XL: 162.8 x 76.6 x 8.5 mm with a 6.8-inch screen.

For the XL model, these dimensions are identical to last year’s Pixel 9 Pro XL. For the smaller version, the only difference with the 2024 model is the thickness: 8.5 mm for the Pixel 9 Pro (just 0.1 mm difference).

However, the weight has significantly increased in the new generation.

• 207 grams for the Pixel 10 Pro (compared to 199 grams);
• 232 grams for the Pixel 10 Pro XL (compared to 221 grams).

This is likely due to the larger batteries that Google has managed to integrate. We now have the following capacities:

• 4870 mAh for the Pixel 10 Pro, while the Pixel 9 Pro was at 4700 mAh;

• 5200 mAh for the Pixel 10 Pro XL, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL was at 5060 mAh.

Additionally, there is a Qi2 certification for an attached magnet during wireless charging to make this more practical and efficient. The commercial name for the accessories will be: Pixel Snap.

This is a feature shared by all Pixel 10 models, with an advantage for the Pixel 10 Pro XL at 25 W (Qi2.2) compared to 15 W for the others.

Are There Surprises Ahead?

The potential surprises (good or bad) of the Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL might lie in those aspects we cannot yet test. These include photo quality, AI-enhanced software experiences, the energy efficiency of the Tensor G5 coupled with larger batteries, and improved wireless charging.

In short, we will meet again as soon as possible for a full test.

Release Date and Pricing for the Google Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL

Mark your calendars for August 28 for the launch, while pre-orders start now.

The Google Pixel 10 Pro is priced starting at €1,119 in France for the base model with 128 GB of storage.

The Pixel 10 Pro XL starts at €1,329 officially in its entry-level 256 GB version (there is no longer a 128 GB version for this model).
