Dreame continues to excel in the mid-range market with its L50s Pro Ultra model, offering features nearly on par with high-end models but at half the price. Although some compromises have been made to maintain such an affordable price, the brand has successfully delivered a very compelling and affordable robot that is sure to delight many households.

Despite being a brand known for its premium positioning, especially with ultra-advanced products like the X60 Ultra Complete and even the CyberX that can climb stairs, Dreame also designs excellent mid-range robotic vacuum cleaners, such as the impressive Dreame L40 Ultra that had already won us over.

For the new generation, the brand has gone all out to the point where the L50s Pro Ultra nearly matches the capabilities of a high-end model. It features a suction power of 30,000 Pa, mopping at 100 °C, as well as extendable side brushes and mops. AI features are also included, along with a detergent cartridge and obstacle crossing capability.

In practical terms, the L50s Pro Ultra builds on the foundation of the previous generation but beefs up two key areas: suction power has increased to 30,000 Pa from 19,500 Pa in the L50 Pro Ultra, and the station now washes mops at 100 °C instead of 75 °C. These upgrades explain why it borders on high-end performance.

Dreame L50s Pro Ultra: A Compact, Elegant, and Familiar Design

In its core range, Dreame does not reinvent the wheel but instead adopts the design of the L10s Ultra, the founding model of the L series, and also the first model with an all-in-one station managing water and dust.

The design of this station is unique in its vertical format, saving floor space and allowing integration in a cramped laundry room or between furniture. On the top of the station, there is a cover housing two water tanks—4.5 L for clean water and 4 L for dirty water, easily manageable with their integrated handles. On the front, a metallic-looking cover conceals a 3.2 L dust bag and a detergent reservoir. The lower part of the station consists of a fixed washing board, using 20 spray nozzles to clean the mop.

The robot itself maintains the brand’s design ethos, with a fixed LiDAR dome adorned with a metallic-looking finish, while a top cover provides access to the HEPA filter and dustbin. At the front, there’s an AI camera, a structured light sensor, and an auxiliary LED, allowing the robot to detect obstacles and recognize dirt.

Underneath the vacuum, there is a dual hybrid brushroll made of rubber and nylon fibers, perfect for cleaning carpets and getting into tile joints, as well as two rotating mop pads. The right pad can shift to better clean along baseboards, while the side brush is articulated, allowing it to extend to gather dirt at the feet of furniture and in corners.

As for the finishes, they are generally good, although some plastics could have been of better quality.

Finally, depending on your preference, the unit is available either in white, as in our test version, or in black, for a more discreet look.

Dreame L50s Pro Ultra: An Intuitive and Comprehensive App

The Dreame L50s Pro Ultra is controlled via the brand’s app. Pairing with the home WiFi network is done by presenting a QR code directly in front of the robot, which then connects automatically.

Once connected, the robot maps the home, creating an accurate representation of the surroundings. Thanks to its sensors, the robot can automatically recognize the type of room, although it is of course possible to manually adjust this later. In my case, my kitchen was identified as a dining room, my laundry room as a bathroom, while the dining room and the toilets are simply named “Room 5” and “Room 7”. The robot also included the terrace, visible through the bay windows, on the map, thus creating zones that are impossible to reach.

Once the map is created, you can rename, merge or split rooms, customize the cleaning sequence, create no-go zones and virtual walls, and add furniture, rugs, and curtains, and even adjust the type of floor covering. Of course, the robot can manage multiple maps, which is particularly useful if you have different levels. It knows how to recognize its environment automatically and choose which one to use without intervention.

Beyond managing maps, the app offers numerous customization options. You can adjust the robot’s behavior on carpets, such as whether to vacuum by lifting the mops, avoid them, or cross them. Similarly, you can set the L50s Pro Ultra to prioritize vacuuming carpets, automatically boost its vacuum power, and perform a cross pass on carpets to better remove dirt.

You can also activate cleaning along the direction of the floor, intelligent spot recognition, or large particles, smartly adjusting the robot’s behavior. If needed, you can also disable the extension of the right mop or the side brush, or even control its frequency if needed.

The station settings allow you to control the automatic addition of cleaning product, the quantity and temperature of the water for washing the mops, the drying time, as well as the compression of pet hair and hairs in the dustbin. Of course, you can let the station automatically adjust these settings according to the levels of dirt detected.

The app also offers options to recharge the robot during off-peak hours and to set time slots for the Do Not Disturb mode, to prevent the nighttime emptying of the dustbin from waking you up.

As for cleaning, the app offers different cleaning modes, namely: vacuuming only, floor washing, simultaneous vacuuming and washing, and vacuuming then floor washing. You can manually adjust the vacuum power room by room on four levels, set the mop humidity on a scale of 32, and adjust the mop washing frequency between every 10 to 20 m², every 10, 15, or 20 minutes, or after each room. However, the CleanGenius mode can automatically manage these options for you, adjusting cleaning settings in real time according to the needs of the terrain.

A mode dedicated to pet owners allows you to focus around your pet’s feeding area and litter or basket, identify your dog or cat’s favorite zones on the map, and monitor and take pictures of them automatically during cleaning.

Similarly, the app allows you to securely access the robot’s camera remotely and move it from your smartphone, allowing you to keep an eye on your home, even from a distance.

Finally, in addition to compatibility with Alexa and Google Home, the Dreame L50s Pro Ultra also includes its own voice assistant. This allows you to control the robot by voice, without needing to use your smartphone or a connected speaker. You can send it to a specific room, start a complete cleaning, or even ask it to return to the station to wash its mop.

Dreame L50s Pro Ultra: Convincing Cleaning Performance

Despite its mid-range positioning, the Dreame L50s Pro Ultra boasts many features worthy of a high-end model, starting with its suction power of 30,000 Pa. On hard floors, this allows the robot to pick up dirt, dust, and crumbs in a single pass, including in the joints of the tile. The robot can also detect clusters of dust or dirt and automatically adjust the suction power to better vacuum them. The articulated side brush also allows it to gather dirt closer to baseboards and furniture feet. However, it may not be sufficient in difficult-to-reach corners, such as in kitchen baseboards, leaving a small uncleaned area.

On carpets, the dual brush roll, combined with the 30,000 Pa power, manages to vacuum deeply, while the combined movement of the two rollers dislodges dirt nestled in the fibers of the carpets. The robot automatically boosts its vacuum power as soon as it detects a carpet and lifts its mop pads to avoid wetting it. Depending on the settings chosen, it can also perform a cross pass for impeccable results. However, unlike other flagship models, the L50s Pro Ultra cannot remove its pads and leave them in the station. This isn’t really a problem as long as you don’t have particularly thick and long-haired carpets that could be wet during cleaning.

For wet cleaning, the L50s Pro Ultra uses two rotating mops that are washed before, during, and after each cycle with water heated to 100 °C. The robot’s reservoir is also filled with a mixture of clean water and detergent, enhancing the effectiveness of the washing. During cleaning, the water level distributed is generous enough to properly moisten the floors, without damaging the parquet. This can also be manually adjusted according to your needs, or even automatically according to the types of floors defined in the map.

In terms of efficiency, the L50s Pro Ultra delivers good results. After its pass, the floor appears clean, even against moderate dirt: footprints, animal prints, or light kitchen splashes disappear without requiring a second pass. For ingrained or dried stains, it removes the majority of residues in the first pass, although the most stubborn ones resist and sometimes require a second pass or more powerful cleaning settings.

However, it is with fresh stains that the CleanGenius mode shows its limits. Faced with a fresh ketchup stain, the robot did not adapt its behavior and rolled directly over it. While the mark disappeared from the floor, the device sucked up the sauce, soiling its wheels and rollers. Moreover, instead of performing an immediate self-clean at the station, it continued its cycle with dirty mops.

Conversely, it performed better with a liquid spill, such as soda. The robot stopped vacuuming to mop the area, went to wash its mops at the station, and then resumed its task.

Regarding noise, the L50s Pro Ultra is not the quietest, producing about 67 dB on average. This is acceptable, although not as quiet as other less noticeable models.

The robot’s autonomy remains a real strong point. In mixed mode, i.e., vacuuming hard floors and carpets and with the washing mode activated, we measured an autonomy of just over three hours, which is particularly commendable for a mid-range product.

Dreame L50s Pro Ultra: Correct Navigation, but Sometimes Baffling

To navigate its environment, the Dreame L50s Pro Ultra uses a fixed LiDAR dome, as well as an AI camera, a structured light sensor, and infrared and ultrasonic sensors to detect walls, voids, and carpets. In short, it is equipped with sensors and should have no problem moving around.

Yet, the robot surprises with its method of movement. Although it has no problem positioning itself or entering or exiting its station, it often tends to take more than surprising paths. For example, to go clean in my kitchen, it passes between the stools of the island, instead of going around it. Worse, it bumps into them quite frequently and even sometimes carries one with it on its run. This is very surprising, especially since it has all the sensors to prevent this from happening. I also found myself in a particularly comical situation: one morning, after running the robot at night, I discovered my dog’s mattress in front of the stairs, carried by the L50s Pro Ultra. Similarly, the dog’s water bowl and small furniture are frequently moved. Certainly, the reflection of the robot’s LED at night on white surfaces can be confusing, but this is quite disappointing, knowing that this situation does not occur with other competing models and that some of the moved objects are black.

As for height, the fixed dome requires a clearance of about 11 cm to pass under furniture, the robot measuring about 10.38 cm high with its LiDAR. This can also be a handicap in a kitchen since the robot will not be able to shave the baseboards.

However, obstacle detection is very reliable and adjusts in real time. The robot immediately adjusts its course if it detects an object while cleaning, and returns to check if the obstacle is still present after cleaning, in order to treat the avoided area. Cables, shoes, and toys are well detected and avoided by the robot and clearly indicated on the map with a photo, allowing you to understand the robot’s behavior.

Dreame L50s Pro Ultra: Simple and Quick Maintenance

The Dreame L50s Pro Ultra is designed to minimize maintenance. The station notably takes care of washing and drying the mop with hot water and air, as well as emptying the dustbin into a large bag contained in the base. On a daily basis, maintenance is therefore limited to emptying and filling the water tanks, which are large enough to cover about 150 m² without intervention. Moreover, the detergent reservoir also minimizes human intervention, as it can last for months with a single filling.

Despite all this automation, it is still necessary to clean the base and the robot manually from time to time. Maintenance of the station is particularly simple, as a dedicated mode in the app allows you to start an automatic cleaning of the washing board, without having to scrub manually. Only a manual cleaning of the filter of the washing board is necessary, which is done by removing it and cleaning it under clear water.

As for the robot, its design also allows you not to have to take too much care of it. A simple replacement of the HEPA filter and brushes, a microfiber wipe will suffice. Indeed, the anti-tangling design of the brushes prevents hair and pet fur from getting tangled, thus facilitating maintenance.
