As revealed during the fall keynote, Apple has officially rolled out iOS 27 on Monday, September 14, 2026, around 7 PM French time. First announced at WWDC, the brand’s annual conference held in June, this major update to the iPhone’s operating system brings several new features to compatible devices, including a slider to adjust the intensity of Liquid Glass, new options powered by Apple Intelligence, and parental control tools. However, its main new feature, a completely revamped version of Siri, is not yet available in the European Union.

1. Siri AI, a Completely Redesigned Voice Assistant

A voice assistant with a “deep understanding of personal context” and a “broad knowledge of the world” designed to help users “find what they need, when they need it”. This is how Apple has described the new version of its voice assistant, which first appeared in 2011 and was initially slated to be revamped with iOS 18.4 in June 2024.

Now powered by Apple Intelligence, Siri AI features multimodal capabilities. It can answer questions about content displayed on the screen, conduct searches across different apps based on what it knows about the user, compose or rephrase content in default-installed apps, or even fetch fresh information from the web. Users no longer need to say “Hey Siri” to activate it: they can instead use the device’s side button or swipe down from the Dynamic Island. It also benefits from a dedicated app, which uses iCloud to “privately sync conversation history across a user’s devices, allowing them to start chatting with Siri on a Mac and continue on an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Apple Vision Pro”, the company explains.

European users, however, will need to wait a bit longer to experience this new version: at its unveiling in June, the California-based company announced in a press release that it would not be able to launch Siri AI with iOS 27 due to the DMA. The European Commission requires Apple to give third-party assistants the same access as Siri, which, according to the company, poses a risk to user data. At this stage, no release date in Europe has been communicated.

2. A Slider to Adjust the Intensity of Liquid Glass

In addition to modifications to Liquid Glass, its design language introduced in iOS 26, which focused on clarity and contrast ensuring “exceptional readability”, Apple has introduced a new slider for easily adjusting its appearance. This can be accessed in Settings > Brightness and Display > Liquid Glass. To increase or decrease transparency, simply move the slider left or right.

3. Parental Control Tools

During the initial setup of a device linked to a Child account, parents can now choose authorized apps. They can follow the brand’s recommended selection (with native apps like Messages, Phone, FaceTime, or Maps), or customize it themselves. iOS 27 also introduces a feature that allows a parent to remotely authorize the download or purchase of a new app, as well as an option called Request to Review, which follows the same principle for accessing a new website. In both cases, parents can approve the request via the Messages app.

4. New Apple Intelligence Features for Image Editing

With iOS 27, the Photos app incorporates three new editing tools: Spatial Cropping allows for adjusting a newly captured photo by virtually changing the position and angle of the camera, Extend extends an image beyond its original borders by generating new pixels, and Enhanced Correction enables the removal of even large objects in an image. For all these features, Apple notes that “usage limitations may apply”.

5. A Feature to Change Weak or Compromised Passwords

First introduced in the iOS 18 update in September 2024, the Passwords app can now detect weak and compromised passwords and alert the user. With the Automatically Fix Passwords option, it can also “update them on your behalf”.
