Google has recently unveiled a new feature for the Android version of its Chrome browser, specifically a new button that provides easy access to one of its currently highlighted features. This move aligns predictably with the tech giant’s ongoing strategy.
In March, Google made a high-profile announcement about introducing an AI Mode to its search engine, heavily drawing on the capabilities of generative AI technologies. This mode allows users to ask questions and receive detailed responses directly, rather than navigating through a list of websites. AI Mode is clearly Google’s counter to competitors like ChatGPT Search and Perplexity, and the company is intent on integrating it broadly to maintain its competitive edge.
The company’s strategy is straightforward: to embed shortcuts wherever feasible. Recently, it was revealed that a new button would be added directly to the new tab page of Chrome on desktops. Naturally, Google has not overlooked its Android users. It has been known for some time that the company has been developing a similar shortcut for Chrome’s homepage on smartphones, which is now available to the general public.

Indeed, Google has officially rolled out its new AI Mode shortcut on Chrome for smartphones. This shortcut is conveniently located just below the classic search bar and to the left of the incognito mode. Clicking on this button opens a new tab that enables the user to perform a variety of actions.

Users can, of course, ask direct questions, but thanks to the integration of multiple AI agents, they can also book tickets, flights, hotel rooms, or even schedule appointments. However, these advanced features are only available to members who subscribe to Google AI Pro and Ultra.
Currently, this new shortcut is only available in the United States, but Google has promised a forthcoming rollout in over 160 countries.
