New Updates for iPadOS and macOS Enhance 5 GHz Wi-Fi Support
Launched last month, the updates iPadOS 26.2 and macOS 26.2 have brought significant improvements to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network support on selected devices that are compatible with Wi-Fi 6E, as highlighted by MacRumors through an Apple support document:
The iPad Pro M4, iPad Air M3, iPad mini Pro A17, MacBook Pro models from M2 to M5, MacBook Air M2, M3, and M4, along with other Mac and iPad models that are Wi-Fi 6E capable, now support a maximum bandwidth of 160 MHz when connected to 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks. This matches the maximum theoretical throughput of 6 GHz networks. Previously, these devices were capped at 80 MHz.
In optimal conditions, users with these devices who have installed iPadOS or macOS 26.2 will experience enhanced wireless speeds if they connect to a Wi-Fi router operating on a 5 GHz band.
