Bluetooth 6.1 Update: Major Boost in Energy Efficiency Ahead!

May 11, 2025

Le Bluetooth 6.1 va améliorer son efficience énergétique
Eight months following the release of Bluetooth 6.0, which introduced several new features including a solution that directly competes with Ultra Wideband (UWB) for precise object location tracking, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has recently unveiled Bluetooth 6.1. This latest iteration is a more minor update that offers two main benefits. The new standard enhances security through the randomization of address change timings, making it more challenging for third-party devices to track since the changes are less predictable. Additionally, it shifts address change operations to the controller, which helps improve battery life.

There is typically a delay between the announcement of new standards and their incorporation into Apple products, which have not yet adopted Bluetooth 6.0. We might expect the first devices compatible with Bluetooth 6.0 to appear by next year, depending on the development cycle of Apple Silicon chips. Support for Bluetooth 6.1 will logically follow afterwards.
