The iPhone models of 2025 have undergone several design and ergonomic updates, particularly the Pro models. However, Apple’s design updates for its smartphones are far from over. A new leak suggests that the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are set to undergo further physical changes. Here are the expected modifications.

The year 2025 is marked by significant design shifts, evident in products from Samsung and Google. The Korean company has made major physical changes to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and introduced one of the world’s thinnest smartphones, the Galaxy S25 Edge. On Apple’s side, the direct competitor to the latter is the iPhone Air, along with the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, all of which feature some ergonomic tweaks.

The iPhone 17 now aligns more closely with the Pro line: it shares the same screen size and technology and includes the Camera Control button on its side. Its camera module is now smaller and perfectly aligned for taking “space-themed” pictures. The Pro models now feature a glass and aluminum (instead of titanium) finish with a “signature” dual finish and a camera module that spans the width of the phone. And Apple is not done evolving the physical aspect of this series.

The design of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will continue to evolve

Indeed, a new leak from the Chinese social network Weibo suggests that the ergonomics of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will continue to evolve in 2026. The leaker known as “Digital Chat Station” posted a message stating that both phones will undergo two changes from the 2025 models. First, the casing of the iPhone could be (at least partially) transparent, reminiscent of the aesthetic strategy used by Nothing. This change would certainly be welcomed. The camera module would remain as it is today.

A second update involves reducing the double punch-hole of the Dynamic Island. This change would be related to a screen technology update and might also affect Face ID. It’s worth noting that another rumor suggests that the first iPhone Fold, also expected in 2026, would feature a selfie camera under its main display. Apple could therefore implement this technology in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max to minimize the Dynamic Island area.

Additional minor details were mentioned in the message from the Chinese leaker. He first confirms information from a JP Morgan report about a variable lens for the main sensor of the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, a technology currently found in Huawei devices. Lastly, he states that Apple is testing a battery with a stainless-steel casing for the iPhone 18 Pro Max, likely aimed at enhancing the physical protection of the battery.
